The RN in the MedSurg Post-Surgical unit at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital provides high-acuity nursing care to patients recovering from various surgical procedures. This role demands advanced critical thinking skills and the ability to manage complex treatment modalities and post-operative complications. The nurse collaborates within a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care and meet organizational standards.

Schedule: Day Shift 3 12's (7am - 7pm)

Our Post-Surgical Step Down Unit (5 South) is a PRISM award winning unit. Acuity of this unit is high as providing care for patients on our unit requires complex interventions & management of multiple disease processes, with advanced critical thinking skills and ability to prevent post op complications.

The patient population includes all types of general surgeries such as gallbladder, appendix, colorectal, urological, hepatobiliary. Many of our patients are undergoing surgeries for pancreatic or GI cancer. Treatment modalities include PCA pumps, TPN/Lipids infusions, continuous bladder irrigation, feeding tubes, nasogastric (NG) and Gastrostomy-jejunostomy (GJ) tube management, heparin and insulin continuous drips, small bore feeding tube management, wound vacuums and surgically placed wound drain management, etc.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of a nursing program

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
New Graduates of a nursing program eligible

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License. BLS certification required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable. Bachelor's degree preferred. Nursing Experience in Hospital Setting Preferred.
