Job Description

The ACUTE unit is a specialized medical stabilization program for patients experiencing severe complications from eating disorders or other forms of reversible malnutrition. Patients come from across the country to receive expert care, including medical management, nutritional and physical rehabilitation, and psychiatric support.

This role provides the opportunity to work in a highly specialized field with a multidisciplinary team, making a profound difference in patients’ recovery journeys.

Position Overview:

As an ACUTE Hospitalist, you will provide expert medical care to patients requiring stabilization for severe malnutrition. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you will manage patient care, coordinate treatment plans, and support recovery efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Patient Care:

    • Provide and document medical care for medically and psychiatrically complex patients.
    • Resolve patient care issues and complete necessary paperwork, including leave of absence documentation.
  • Care Coordination:

    • Lead communication among multidisciplinary team members (nurses, dietitians, psychologists, physical/occupational therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers).
    • Act as the primary contact for hospital staff, patients’ families, and outpatient providers.
  • Quality Improvement & Training:

    • Participate in committees to enhance patient care, infection control, and staff communication.
    • Provide teaching and supervision for trainees, including residents and medical students.
  • Legal and Ethical Care:

    • Evaluate patient capacity for decision-making in the context of severe mental illness.
    • Apply Colorado Statutes and Behavioral Health Administration rules for involuntary psychiatric care.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
    • Completed residency program and fellowship (if applicable).
  • Licenses:

    • Active MD or DO license through the State Medical Board.
  • Skills:

    • Expertise in medical care principles and pharmacological treatments.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and patient populations.
  • Experience:

    • On-the-job training provided for treating eating disorders and understanding Colorado regulations for 27-65 facilities.

Work Schedule:

  • Varied shifts.

Compensation:

  • Salary: $229,400.00 - $266,800.00/year
