Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner at BAS Healthcare summary:

The Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner conducts medical disability examinations for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on a PRN basis, primarily performing interview-based assessments with some physical evaluation. The role allows for flexible scheduling, with opportunities for both travel and practice-based assessments, focusing on comprehensive evaluations without treatment or prescribing. This position requires familiarity with various medical conditions, quick credentialing, and proficient usage of assessment tools, ensuring timely and standardized reporting of evaluations.

Location: A charming city located in the northern part of the state, known for its historical significance and beautiful scenery. The city features a lively downtown area with shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. The surrounding area offers outdoor activities like hiking and biking, particularly in the nearby Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains. About 75 miles to Washington, D.C. and 90 miles to Baltimore! This opportunity is available in other parts of the state as well.

Facility: A private company that provides medical disability examination and evaluation services to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Opportunity:
  • Need is on a PRN basis, ongoing
  • Willing to accept these specialties: family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, etc, or anyone with a background in general medicine, or experience with compensation and pension.
  • Two (2) options for coverage - Travel and perform exams at leased facility and/or schedule Veterans within your own practice
  • Option to work days(4-hours) and/or full days(8-hours)
  • No call!
  • One-Time non-treatment C&P exams + separation health assessments
  • Exams are primarily interview-based with some physical assessment: range of motion testing, muscle strength testing.
  • No prescribing, no treatment
  • Quick credentialing & onboarding
  • DMA certification available (can get CME credits) will need to obtain once privileged if not already certified
  • Use of Goniometer required
  • Familiar with Musculoskeletal, Diabetes, and Cardio required
  • Proficient in METs testing, evaluating and diagnosing respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions.
  • Own personal laptop (NO MACs)
  • Training shall be provided for all Reporting/Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs)
    • Reporting/DBQs must be submitted within 48 hours upon exam completion - no narrative report. End product is completion of standardized form(s).
  • Evaluations to be completed in provider portal
  • Record review is required in most cases
  • Follow up administrative work will be required on a regular basis (addendums, medical opinions, and reading diagnostics)
Compensation: Competitive hourly rates with weekly pay and malpractice included.
