New American neighborhood restaurant in Brooklyn is looking for a talented and energetic chef. Great opportunity for an executive sous chef/strong lead sous to step into a main leadership role.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring promptness, freshness, and quality of dishes through proper expediting and line cooking where necessary.
- Maintain proper food safety requirements as per NYC DOH.
- Coordinate cooks’ tasks and scheduling.
- Implement hygiene policies and examine equipment for cleanliness and efficiency.
- Assist the executive chef in creating seasonal menu changes, developing special event menus.
- Review staffing levels to meet service, operational, and financial objectives.
- Hiring and training kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, and porters.
- Perform administrative tasks such as schedules, prep lists, inventory of food and equipment supplies, and daily purchase orders while maintaining proper labor and food cost percentage.
- Setting and monitoring standards for staff.
- Obtain feedback on food and service quality, and handle customer/client problems and complaints.
- Work with FOH management to create a seamless and memorable guest experience.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of culinary managerial restaurant experience.
- References of culinary background required.
- Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite or the Google equivalent.
- Maintains a positive attitude and keeps a clean and polished appearance.
- New York City Food Handler’s Certificate.
- Open availability including nights, weekends, and holidays where necessary.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Fluency in English required, ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.
