Join us today!Job Description - Executive Director - Massachusetts Black & Latino Legislative Caucus (MBLLC) (250000YR) DescriptionOverview: The Massachusetts Black & Latino Legislative Caucus (MBLLC) is considering applicants for its Executive Director position. The Caucus is an organization of Black and Latino legislators serving in the Massachusetts state legislature, whose mission is to define, highlight and analyze those issues and concerns affecting people of color in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Caucus shall seek to develop a sense of political awareness among its constituents and to make the political and legislative process accountable and accessible for those who have been disenfranchised. The Caucus’s office is located in the State House.Primary Purpose/Essential Functions The Executive Director of the Caucus is responsible for executing action steps identified by the Caucus and its executive board, and advancing its overall agenda. S/he acts as a liaison among the Caucus members and between the Caucus and external partners and stakeholders. S/he will be charged with developing and maintaining relationships with counterparts in various government, community, and corporate organizations to further the efforts of the Caucus. The executive director also informs Caucus members about issues—statewide, national, and regional within Massachusetts—relevant to the Caucus’s mission. In addition, s/he may be charged with communicating the Caucus’s positions to outside groups. The Executive Director is also responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising interns to assist in the work of the Caucus. The Executive Director must perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.Reports to: Caucus Chairperson or his/her designeeGeneral Duties Coordinate, execute, and promote the agenda of the CaucusCoordinate regular Caucus meetings, including scheduling, dissemination of meeting agendas, and directly executing and/or facilitating the execution of follow-up action itemsAct as a liaison between the Caucus and organizations, advocacy groups, lobbyists, and government entities that serve the Caucus’ shared constituenciesDraft and coordinate press releases and other communications outreach for the Caucus, including maintenance and content management of web page, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and FacebookAssist members in developing strategic objectives to raise overall profile of the CaucusParticipate in community activities and attend community meetings as deemed appropriate by the CaucusSelect, train, and supervise internsWork with the Caucus’ Treasurer regarding management of the Caucus’ financesResearch issues and policies and their impact on communities of colorCompile and distribute press clips relevant to Caucus’s workManage the day-to-day functions of the Caucus officeMaintain files regarding Caucus events, meetings, and prioritiesMaintain communication with other legislative caucuses of colorOrganize various events and special projects as neededQualifications Minimum Skill Requirements Strong work ethic & healthy sense of humorSelf-starter with ability to work independentlyDemonstrated ability to work well with people of widely diverse economic, racial/ethnic, and philosophical backgroundsDemonstrated commitment to working on issues of particular concern to Black and Latino communitiesSuperb written and oral communication skills, including ability to write on-message, error-free content quicklyAbility to understand fundamentals of new subject areas quicklyExperience with website content managementStrong interpersonal skills for building relationships with Caucus members’ staffs, executive branch agencies, and the publicWillingness to work long hours, including some evening and weekend availability for public eventsAttention to detailAbility to meet deadlines and deliver on goalsDiscretion, good judgment, and trustworthinessInterest in receiving constructive feedback and coachingAbility to manage multiple personalities and agendasMust thrive under pressureRequired Education and Work Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in political/legislative organizingStrong understanding of the state legislative processPreferred Experience (not required) Political/community organizing/legislative experience strongly preferredKnowledge of MA politicsSome knowledge of the history of people of color in MAFluency in Spanish, Haitian and/or Cape Verdean creoleFamiliarity with graphic design and photo/video editing softwareThe House of Representatives is an equal opportunity employer.
