Location: Bayfield County Jail

Open Position: Licensed Professional Counselor LPC, MSW or Psych RN

Schedule: 2 hrs per week, Flexible Schedule

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Provider to deliver vital mental health services to inmates within a county jail system. The ideal candidate will possess either a master's degree in counseling or social work. This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to positively impact individuals' lives during an important time.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of inmates' mental health needs, utilizing standardized assessment tools and clinical interviews.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, focusing on stabilization, skill-building, and preparation for re-entry into the community.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services, addressing a range of issues such as substance abuse, trauma, anger management, and coping skills.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including corrections staff, medical professionals, and probation officers to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Facilitate referrals to internal programs and external community resources for ongoing support upon release.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, treatment plans, sessions, and other relevant information.
  • Stay current with best practices in correctional mental health and seek out opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Level: Master’s degree in counseling or social work. Current licensure (LPC, MSW, etc.) and eligibility for certification in correctional mental health (preferred).
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for working with justice-involved populations.
  • Excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, potentially challenging environment.
  • Commitment to cultural competence and working with diverse populations.
  • Registered Nurse: Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric nursing
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations and diagnoses (e.g., substance abuse, personality disorders, psychosis)
  • Correctional health experience preferred, but not required

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position is within a county jail setting.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and adhere to all security protocols.
