The City of Seminole Fire Rescue Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic working 24/48 hour shift work. The successful candidate will perform emergency medical and firefighting work in the treatment of the injured or sick--combating, extinguishing, preventing fires, operating Department apparatus, and equipment.
Work must be performed in a proficient manner in accordance with explicit adherence to established practices within County medical protocol and well-defined administrative procedures; however, the incumbent must exercise considerable technical judgment and initiative in meeting a wide variety of emergencies.
Responsible technical and professional uniformed position in performing EMT and Advanced Life Support procedures in the pre-hospital setting in accordance with all State and County rules and regulations. Involves emergency medical and firefighting work in the treatment of the injured or sick; combating, extinguishing, preventing fires; operating Department apparatus, and equipment. Work must be performed in a proficient manner in accordance with explicit adherence to established practices within County medical protocol and well-defined administrative procedures; however, the incumbent must exercise considerable technical judgment and initiative in meeting a wide variety of emergencies. Work is frequently performed in emergency conditions which may often involve extreme danger and exertion under hazardous conditions such as flames, smoke, hazardous materials, cramped conditions, charged or oxygen deficient atmospheres, downed power lines, inclement weather, and victims with severe injuries and death, among others.
Position will close on February 25, 2025 at 4:00 pm. Interviews are anticipated to be scheduled in early March. *Provides firefighting, rescue, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) services, prompt Advanced Life Support at emergency scenes for the purpose of mitigating emergencies, managing, and stabilizing the critically ill and injured and performs basic Life Support procedures when required.
*Performs Advanced Life Support such as defibrillate a pulseless, non-breathing patient; administers parenteral injections and intravenous fluids as prescribed in Standing Orders or Protocols in compliance with the Medical Operations Manual (MOMS).
*Uses advanced medical techniques under the supervision of the Medical Communications Officer, MCO, Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) or the medical physician on duty via radio and telecommunication equipment/system(s) and written medical protocol.
*Participates in the exchange of information between off-going and on-coming shifts.
*Responsible for checking all personal gear to ensure safe and effective operation of same.
*Participates in crew meetings with the District Chief and the Station Lieutenant(s) as necessary.
*Participates, as a part of the Station Team, in maintaining firefighting equipment, vehicles, Fire Stations, associated facilities, and other tools and/or restocking/resupplying as necessary.
*Participates in maintaining firefighting equipment, vehicles, and Fire Stations and associated facilities.
*Responsible for the preparation and completion of records and reports related to emergency medical care given and vehicle operation during assigned operational period.
*Sets up, operates, and monitors complex electronic medical equipment such as a twelve lead ECG strip recorder, cardioscope, defibrillator, and two-way radio transmitter and receiver.
*Assists in removal of victims from danger.
*Responds to alarms of fire or other emergency; lays, connects, and uses hoses and nozzles to direct fog or water stream; raises and climbs ladders; uses fire extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines, pike poles, axes, halogens, drills, saws, extrication tools and appliances, heart monitors, defibrillators, intubation equipment, etc., and other firefighting equipment.
*Actively participates in Public Education activities at the Fire Station and at off-site locations.
*Actively participates in all scheduled and assigned training classes including firefighting, C.M.E., emergency first aid, and other related subjects, both at the Fire Rescue Department's facilities and at remote facilities as scheduled.
*Operates engines, trucks, squads and rescue units, as needed and assigned, and uses all equipment, tools, and supplies in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
*Maintains familiarity with grid maps and related road networks within the Fire District area as well as within those areas with mutual aid response agreements.
*Performs Company tactical survey inspections on buildings and businesses under 10,000 square feet and may assist Inspectors if greater than 10,000 square feet.
*Participates in the Department's Physical Fitness Program as approved by the Fire Chief.
*Demonstrates thorough knowledge of and adheres to all Departmental/Divisional Policies and Procedures and the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures.
*Strives to maximize effective communications between assigned personnel, upper Management, County personnel, other employees throughout the City, and the general public as necessitated by the position.
*Performs other job related duties that are consistent with assigned Division responsibilities.
- Fully Florida Fire certified Firefighter and Florida certified Paramedic – preferred.
- Will also consider fully Florida certified Paramedics who are currently enrolled in Fire Academy or who are willing to attend Fire Academy within 12 months from the date of hire.
- Requires valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) within the past 18 months, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Applicant must also be AHA Basic Life Support certified, ACLS & PHTLS certified, or possess the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Minimum Florida Class E driver’s license is required at time of hire.
- High school diploma/equivalent also required.
Compensation details: 19.55-29.23 Hourly Wage
