Infection Control Nurse/MDS

Reports To Director of Nursing

The infection Control nurse will be responsible for infection control surveillance and antibiotic stewardship program. The infection control nurse will work part time with MDS. Duties include but are not limited to:

Ensure that the written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department are followed by all nursing personnel.

Cooperate with other resident's services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident’s total regimen of care is maintained.

Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluation, studies, charting, care plan updates, etc., as necessary.

Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing department.

Assist in planning with nursing services portion of the resident’s discharge plan, as necessary.

Participate in survey (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of assigned shifts as required.

Review the department’s policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc. periodically.

Meet with assigned nursing staff, as well as support personnel, residents, visitors and government agencies as required.

Chart nurses notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects care provided to the resident, and resident’s response to the care.

Understand the importance of customer service and be willing to learn resident/relative satisfaction techniques.

Participate in committee meetings and function on committees as assigned.

Direct implementation of and observe infection control procedures.

Direct implementation and observe all facility safety policies and procedures.

Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action.

Assume responsibility for the safety of the residents.

Direct implementation of and observe Resident’s Rights policies and ensure that resident confidentiality is maintained.

Direct implementation of and observe facility disaster preparedness procedures.

? MDS

Attend the following meetings:

Daily stand up meeting

WWF on Thursday

Care Plan Meetings

Medicare Meeting on Thurs.

This is a partial list of duties and is subject to change based on the need of the facility and the residents.

Certifications, Licenses Necessary

Must be, as a minimum, a Licensed or Graduated Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri. Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as an LPN/RN in Missouri. Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, skilled nursing facility or other related health care program. Must have the ability to be pleasant, cheerful, tactful, and courteous when dealing with residents, clients, co-workers, supervisors and administration. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along well with clients, customers, co-workers, supervisors and administration. Must be able to perform the physical and environmental requirements listed below.

Exposure Observations

Occupational exposure is reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, non-intact skin, or parenteral contact with blood or other bodily fluid or tissue which contains body fluid that may result from the performance of an employee’s duties. The duties of this position entail category 1 occupational exposure. This means that the regular duties of this position may involve exposure to blood borne pathogens. Hand washing still recommended as a precautionary measure.
