The role entails offering pediatric surgical coverage at University Medical Center on a 14-day on/14-day off rotation. While on service, responsibilities include delivering pediatric in-hospital surgical services and conducting consultations in a clinic located on the University Medical Center campus. Teaching surgical residents and medical students is also a key aspect of the position.

Our ACS teams, covering two major tertiary referral hospitals, receive a large number of emergency general surgery, trauma and burn patients from the entire West Texas/ Eastern New Mexico region; our Level 1 trauma center is in the top decile for penetrating trauma among TQIP centers in the nation. This large, high acuity patient volume affords an excellent variety of surgical experience, and a great opportunity for clinical/outcomes research and education. All ACS surgeons follow a 12 hour shift model, with no 24 hour call. This model allows for work-life integration and time for administrative roles, education and research.
