Assistant Professor - Mathematics Education

August 2025
POSITION: The Science and Mathematics Education program, housed in the School of Teaching, Learning and Educational Sciences (STLES) in the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) at Oklahoma State University is accepting applicants for a full-time, nine-month Assistant Professor-Mathematics Education position, to begin August 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Science and Mathematics Education (SMED) program prepares students to be leaders in both formal and informal education settings. The mathematics education faculty participates in partnerships with schools in Oklahoma and participates in research grants and collaborations through the Center for Research on STEM Teaching and Learning (CRSTL), which offers a unique platform for research opportunities. Mathematics Education faculty teach undergraduate mathematics education courses within the elementary education and secondary programs. In addition to offering undergraduate coursework through on-campus and online programs, the program offers graduate courses supporting Master of Science and Mathematics and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. This faculty member will join a group of science and mathematics education faculty who are active as researchers, instructors, and grant writers, and who are significantly involved in a variety of national organizations. The new faculty will enhance or complement the university's land grant mission and a desire to positively impact the community through service, extension, and outreach efforts. In particular, the new faculty member should become a leader in STLES, CEHS, the community, state, and beyond as related to K-12 mathematics education. The faculty should build positive relationships with the K-12 school community and be an active participant in state/regional/national/international mathematics education research organizations.
Responsibilities for this faculty position include:
  • Teaching undergraduate elementary mathematics education and graduate K-12 mathematics education courses;
  • Engaging in scholarly activities leading to grants, presentations, and publications related to the position;
  • Recruiting and mentoring graduate students; and
  • Participating in committee service to the program, department, college, university, and community;
  • Conducting aligned research and participating in state, regional, national, and international mathematics education research organizations, including research publications and grant activity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned Ed.D. or Ph.D. with an emphasis in Mathematics Education, or related area by the start date for the position;
Evidence of or demonstrated potential for scholarly and creative activities within a line of inquiry focused to advance knowledge in mathematics education;
Evidence of or potential for effective undergraduate and graduate instruction in a broad range of mathematics education topics;
Evidence of collegiality and collaboration at both the higher education levels and with public school communities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of three years of successful full-time K-12 classroom teaching experience in U.S. public schools;
Experience teaching in a grades K-8 classroom;
Experience teaching and working with elementary and/or secondary preservice teachers;
Strong technology integration skills;
Experience in teaching and learning in online learning environments; and
Experience procuring grants and funding for research and development projects.
