Job Description:

Orion is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to design airports and other civil site development projects at our Honolulu office. The position involves civil design of airport infrastructure including runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, airfield electrical improvements, drainage, grading, and other airport civil infrastructure. The successful candidate will provide airfield engineering services related to planning, assessments, design, project management, and construction management of airport-related infrastructure.

General/Technical Responsibilities:

  1. Develop new or refined engineering design solutions for moderate scope projects.
  2. Assess feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations and solutions.
  3. Perform as a staff advisor and consultant during design meetings and workshops.
  4. Conduct peer reviews and make technical presentations at client meetings.
  5. Conduct value engineering evaluations and produce reports summarizing completed work.

Project Management Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and evaluate project plans and design criteria for various projects.
  2. Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering for moderate scope projects.
  3. Review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  4. Track overall financial performance of task assignments.

Client Management/Revenue Generation:

  1. Actively engage with clients and contribute to business development.

Complexity & Decision-Making Authority:

  1. Make independent decisions on engineering problems and methods.
  2. Carry out complex assignments requiring development of new techniques and procedures.

Development & Leadership of Others:

  1. Delegate work, mentor, train, and supervise less experienced staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or appropriate discipline.
  2. PhD in related engineering discipline can substitute for up to three years of experience.
  3. Minimum 7-10+ years of post-graduate experience in Civil Engineering.
  4. Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering.
  5. Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D and Microsoft Office 365.
  6. Must pass TSA Security Screening and Background Check for working at commercial airports.
  7. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently.
  8. Proficient in writing reports, technical communications, and client communications.
  9. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  10. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  1. Diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  2. Utilization of advanced techniques and modification of design principles.
  3. Ability to solve complex issues with limited direction.
  4. Diversified knowledge of technology, materials, and industry design standards.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  1. Primarily work in the corporate office in downtown Honolulu.
  2. Willingness to travel to project sites and Orion business offices.
  3. Fieldwork may require varying schedules including night work.
