Our client, an early-stage startup that is innovating how individuals and financial institutions navigate government policy changes, is seeking a Data Scientist. This role requires in-person collaboration in the Atlanta area three days per week, fostering stronger communication, teamwork, and a vibrant company culture.
Position Summary:
Seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our team and play a pivotal role in leveraging data to drive innovation and deliver cutting-edge solutions. This role focuses on developing models, deriving data-driven insights, and creating strategies using both machine learning and traditional statistical methodologies. You will be integral to the research, development, and productionalization of advanced analytical methods, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Predictive Analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, train, validate, and deploy machine learning models and algorithms to solve business challenges, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance with best practices.
- Define evaluation frameworks to rigorously test and monitor model performance, troubleshoot issues, and improve accuracy and robustness in production environments.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and business stakeholders, to design and implement data-driven solutions that address complex problems.
- Extract, analyze, and visualize large datasets to generate actionable insights, focusing on consumer-centric outcomes and financial transparency.
- Research and prototype new AI/ML methods, leveraging advances in the field to innovate and enhance product capabilities.
- Collaborate with engineering to preprocess, clean, and secure sensitive data, ensuring high-quality and scalable data pipelines for model training and deployment.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and feature engineering to improve model performance and align with business objectives.
- Implement guardrails to ensure ethical AI practices, compliance with regulations, and safety mechanisms in AI-driven features.
- Clearly communicate findings, methodologies, and insights to technical and non-technical audiences through visualizations, reports, and presentations.
- Keep up with advancements in AI/ML technologies and proactively identify opportunities to drive business value and improve consumer experiences.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, methodologies, and outcomes for transparency and future reference.
Qualifications: - 5+ years of experience in data science, with a focus on machine learning, predictive modeling, and data analytics.
- Proven experience deploying machine learning models and pipelines in production environments, particularly within cloud platforms and microservices architectures.
- Recent deployment of modern classification models (e.g. GBDT such as LightGBM and deep neural nets)
- Track record of wearing multiple hats and adapting to changing priorities.
- Experience building ML systems from scratch with limited initial infrastructure.
- Proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and SQL.
- Expertise in statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, multivariate analysis, and advanced data analysis techniques.
- Experience with NLP, deep learning frameworks, and large language models (LLMs), including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and fine-tuning.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in teams and convey insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage projects from ideation to production, leveraging strong problem-solving skills to break down complex challenges into actionable solutions and deliver impactful results.
- Creativity and curiosity to explore new methodologies and address data limitations.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields (Ph.D. preferred but not required).
- Strong knowledge of data governance, compliance, and ethical AI practices.
- Familiarity with financial or policy-related data (preferred).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn), and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS), along with familiarity with MLOps.
Base Salary $150,000-$170,000. Final determination of salary will be based on an evaluation of experience, education, budget, etc.
