Payroll Technician (Lead Role Potential) - Hybrid Schedule!

What you’ll do…

  • Provide services such as entering preferences for voluntary deductions, direct deposits, tax withholdings, answering pay questions, and reprinting W-2 forms.
  • Calculate corrections and exceptions to the payroll process, confirm authorization levels, and input in the system for next cycle or on-demand checks.
  • Troubleshoot, make exception entries, and maintain data in the time and attendance system.
  • Work with other departments to identify and resolve payroll issues.
  • General understanding of the DOL, FLSA, and policy regulations that impact in/out entries and overtime.
  • Interpret court orders to appropriately withhold child support payments and other garnishments; research issues with courts and provide data as needed.
  • Execute payment processing through centralized Friend of the Court (FOC) programs.
  • Run programs that transfer data through interfaces and make payroll calculations from time and attendance through gross, gross-to-net, payroll taxes, and general ledger.
  • Use and understand daily controls, reconcile balances to pay registers, identify and resolve straightforward issues.
  • Provide requested data to various agencies regarding employee information, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Basic understanding of tax regulations to process withholdings and deposits.
  • Support the generation and distribution of W-2 forms.

Additionally, as a Lead Technician, you will...

  • Be the first line of review for questions from Payroll Technicians regarding complex issues; provide guidance and training, monitor workloads, and encourage goal attainment.
  • Apply comprehension of controls to reconcile balances; identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Conduct tests within the payroll system concerning new rates and withholding schedules.
  • Be accountable for the accurate and timely performance of leadership duties; share in the stewardship and oversight of the department.

What you’ll need…

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of hands-on experience processing gross-to-net paychecks with solid understanding of payroll principles.
  • Workplace experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create basic reports, documents, and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel.
  • SAP Payroll or related business system knowledge.
  • Ability to become proficient with using in-house payroll information systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to calculate, analyze, and interpret mathematical information such as percent differences, ratios, median, mean, weighted average, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.

As a Lead , you will need...

  • Two (2) years of progressive payroll experience with an ERP payroll system in a high volume, multi-state environment.
  • Two (2) years of experience with SAP payroll or related business systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tax regulations related to payroll activities.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business, human resources, information technology or related field of study.
  • Ability to apply accounting principles.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll.
  • Experience with time and attendance systems.
  • Experience with in-house payroll processing.
