Geographic Information System Specialist
The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing skilled digital mapping involving the preparation and maintenance of digital maps and providing Geographic Information System (GIS) support to the Public Works Department. The individual’s primary focus is to update GIS maps with data from project CAD drawings, and to help integrate GIS data into the asset management database. The individual participates in GIS data creation, collection, editing, and manipulation; and develops mapping data in adherence to the Seminole Tribe of Florida GIS standards. The incumbent is expected to organize and maintain spatial and tabular data using GIS, and to collaborate with the Tribal Community Development Department and Information Technology Department GIS Divisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geomatics, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering or related field with Geographic Information System (GIS) coursework is required.
- Certification as Geographic Information System Professional (GISP) is preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of GIS experience with at least two (2) years of experience working with ArcGIS Databases, AutoCAD and knowledge and understanding of GPS hardware and software packages.
- Knowledge and understanding of GIS/GPS database and principles, database, cartographic, geographic, statistical, and mathematical theory sufficient to perform geographic analyses is required.
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing computer software packages.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
