Tax Senior Manager, Alternative Investments

Job Summary:

As a team member in our Alternative Investments practice, the Tax Senior Manager will assist in providing tax compliance & consulting services to BDO’s Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.

Job Duties:

Tax Compliance:

• Ensures compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
• Applies understanding of client’s unique circumstances and prepares required filings (tax returns) to ensure compliance.
• Collects all data needed to comply with filing requirements and communicates missing items.
• Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax preparation.
• Teams effectively with Partners, Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion.
• Delivers high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
• Leads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
• Manages engagement aspects including billing, collections, and project budgets.
• Builds and manages client relationships and assists in developing new clients and opportunities.
• Documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.

Tax Consulting:

• Identifies, develops, recommends, and implements efficient and effective tax strategies.
• Other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Managing teams of Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.
• Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.

Experience:

• Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience required.
• Prior supervisory experience required.
• Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds preferred.
• Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships preferred.

License/Certifications:

• CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent required.
• Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred.
• CFP or Masters in Tax preferred.

Software:

• Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) preferred.
• Experience with tax research databases preferred.
• Proficient in tax compliance process software preferred.

• Ability to effectively delegate work as needed.
• Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
• Capacity to work well in a team environment.
• Ability to compose written tax advice.
• Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact.

Individual salaries are determined after consideration of numerous factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

Maryland Range: $152,000 - $188,000

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $175,000 - $205,000

Washington Range: $150,000 - $200,000

Washington DC Range: $156,000 - $200,000
