Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Carbon Neutrality & Regulatory Affairs (CNRA) division is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Circularity and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Advocacy Principal Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to advocate Toyota’s position towards proposed and developing Circularity and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws and regulations.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Advocacy, the person in this role will support the Chemical & Materials Stewardship (CMS) department's objective to provide subject matter expertise, coordinate company positions, advocate on behalf of Toyota, and communicate these efforts with Toyota business stakeholders related to circularity and EPR laws and regulations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Represent Toyota by continuously engaging with federal and state legislators and regulators to monitor, coordinate, communicate, advocate, guide, and influence development of Circularity and EPR laws and regulations related to substances or materials which are relevant to Toyota, such as packaging and batteries.
  • Collaborate with other producers inside and outside of the auto industry directly or through various trade associations, conferences, etc. Strategically utilize these mechanisms to advance Toyota’s needs and perspectives.
  • Collaborate with Toyota global affiliates and global trade associations to build broad global advocacy positions and strategies to ensure Toyota global “One Voice”.
  • Collaborate and strategize with various Toyota compliance related business units and supply chain stakeholders to gather impact assessment information and to provide insights on requirements to ensure they have the information necessary for proper compliance.
  • Establish constructive critical government agency relationships to represent Toyota with credibility and trust.
  • Utilize various IT tools to support the tracking, management, and prioritization of Circularity and EPR regulations and legislation.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years related experience in engineering fields and processes such as chemical or materials management or materials waste management, including reuse and closed-loop recycling, circularity themes, such as product end of life materials management, including reuse and closed-loop recycling.
  • Experience in managing product legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities.
  • Experience presenting to internal and external stakeholders through verbal and written communication for negotiation, influence, and representation to trade associations and building networks and alliances.
  • Advanced in MS Office suite.

Added bonus if you have:

  • Experience with state legislatures, regulatory agencies, or municipalities, or lobbying firms and trade associations.
  • Master’s degree in business administration or engineering.
  • Experience with project management and data analytics tools.
  • Bi-lingual skills in Japanese.

The annual base salary range for this position is $132,100.00 - $214,600.00. Employees (and their families) are covered by medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan.
