The City of Hampton is looking for dedicated, detail-oriented professionals to join our team as Certified Public Safety Dispatchers. In this vital role, you'll answer 911 emergency and non-emergency calls, provide essential information, and dispatch the right personnel and equipment to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens. Ability to pass a standard typing test of 40 wpm with 5 errors; must successfully complete the City of Hampton Public Safety Telecommunications Trainee program to include Call Taker, Fire and Police Telecommunications.Will be required to successfully complete a Police Department background investigation to include a polygraph examination and pre-employment screening for controlled substances.Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.Additional RequirementsRequires effective communication with internal and external customers.Position may require working nights, weekends, holidays and extended shifts as required. Incumbents are required to work in situations of extreme stress and in emergency, life threatening situations.The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.Extensive knowledge of and proficiency in the use of personal computers; thorough knowledge of the city's geography; ability to speak clearly and distinctively over the radio; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and ability to give clear, concise feedback; ability to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships and work effectively with diverse groups; ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions.Must be able to maintain the ability to provide credible testimony in court, to the magistrate and in other situations where credibility will be of importance.
