Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Deputy General Counsel, Product, Litigation & IP to join the Strava legal team! In this role, you will provide strategic leadership on all product legal matters—helping our product, engineering, and marketing teams navigate complex challenges around privacy, consumer protection, and content moderation—while also overseeing litigation strategy, dispute resolution, and our IP portfolio. You’ll work cross-functionally to identify and mitigate legal risks, guide high-impact product launches, and manage litigation from pre-dispute counseling through resolution.

We follow a flexible hybrid model that generally translates to around half your time on-site in our San Francisco office —roughly three days per week.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Lead Product Counseling by managing the Product Legal function and acting as a trusted advisor to internal teams throughout the product development lifecycle, implementing privacy-by-design strategies, and ensuring that product launches are calibrated properly for legal risk.
  • Oversee Litigation Strategy by directing litigation matters from initial risk assessment through resolution, managing external counsel, and developing holistic strategies to mitigate risks to Strava’s business.
  • Provide Cross-Functional Guidance by partnering closely with stakeholders—including Product, Engineering, Marketing, and the executive team—to align on legal considerations for product roadmaps and ensure consistent, proactive risk management.
  • Shape Regulatory Approach by monitoring emerging regulatory trends and potential litigation risks and using that perspective to influence company policy and strategy.
  • Protect our IP by thoughtfully managing and extending our IP portfolio, as well as through enforcement of our protected assets.

You will be successful here by:

  • Balancing theoretical legal considerations with pragmatic, business-oriented execution that protects Strava while enabling product innovation.
  • Navigating uncertain regulatory landscapes and rapidly evolving business priorities to offer clear, risk-based advice.
  • Leveraging data to inform litigation and product strategies, ensuring recommendations are grounded in measurable insights.
  • Working in tandem with senior leaders to drive organizational change and ensure legal compliance remains a core part of Strava’s culture.
  • Proactively spotting potential issues and taking initiative to resolve them, understanding that “nothing is somebody else’s problem.”
  • Bringing professionalism without ego—taking your work seriously but not yourself, enjoying a good laugh, and thriving in a supportive, team-first environment.

We’re excited about you because:

  • You have 15+ years of experience with a blend of in-house product counseling and litigation management, ideally within a multinational, consumer-facing technology company.
  • You find innovative, practical solutions to complex legal challenges, balancing risk tolerance with business objectives.
  • You can clearly distill complex legal requirements into actionable guidance and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • You have demonstrated leadership experience, mentoring junior attorneys and collaborating with cross-functional partners.
