Title: Systems Engineer

Pay: 115-125k/year

Location: Must be located in the DC-Metro area

We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to manage and optimize our IT infrastructure, ensuring stability, scalability, and security across cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will have experience with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, AWS, virtualization technologies (VMware, Virtual Machines), and data center operations. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to infrastructure optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

1. IT Infrastructure Management:

• Design, implement, and maintain IT infrastructure solutions across on-premises and cloud environments (AWS).
• Monitor system performance and ensure high availability of business-critical applications.
• Perform capacity planning and scalability assessments for IT infrastructure.
• Automate infrastructure processes using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).

• Manage and maintain Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) environments.
• Administer Active Directory (AD), Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Access Management.
• Implement and support security policies and authentication mechanisms (MFA, SSO, etc.).

• Deploy and manage cloud-based infrastructure in AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, RDS, etc.).
• Implement cloud security best practices and cost-optimization strategies.
• Configure and maintain hybrid cloud solutions integrating on-premises and AWS resources.

• Configure, maintain, and optimize VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, and other virtualization technologies.
• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot virtual machines (VMs) in production environments.
• Oversee data center operations, including rack/server installations, hardware maintenance, and disaster recovery planning.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards and security best practices (NIST, ISO, SOC 2).
• Perform system patching, vulnerability management, and backup/recovery strategies.
• Collaborate with security teams to mitigate threats and ensure endpoint protection.

• Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support for system-related issues.
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, network issues, and system failures.
• Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, IT infrastructure management, or a similar role.
• Expertise in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and Group Policy management.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, RDS).
• Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere, ESXi, Hyper-V).
• Hands-on experience in data center operations and server hardware management.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Strong troubleshooting skills in networking, system performance, and storage.
• Knowledge of IT security best practices, firewalls, and management.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, SolarWinds, Nagios, CloudWatch).
• Certifications (but not required): AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMware VCP, CompTIA Security+.
