GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs daily duties of resident care, per job standards, as directed by the Director of Housing in accordance with prescribed procedures and policies of the facility and Federal, State and local authorities, to ensure that quality nursing services are provided at all times.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Maintain the standard of nursing care and follow the policies and procedures of the facility.
b. Protects and maintains confidentiality of residents, information, and resident's rights.
c. Respects and shows kindness to all residents.
d. Reports all pertinent information to the Director of Housing and appropriate support staff.
e. Protects and maintains all work areas in accordance with facility safety policies.
f. Assures that floors are free of hazardous debris.
g. Performs daily tasks in accordance with infection control and standard precaution policies and procedures.
h. Follows policies and procedures related to body mechanics.
i. Follows policies and procedures related to positioning, transfers, and mobility.
j. Ambulates residents in accordance with individual plans of care.
k. Daily task - schedules medical appointments
l. Toilets residents when out on appointments
m. Dresses in accordance with facility dress code policy.
n. Participates in facility committees giving input.
o. During down time perform duties assigned by supervisor.
p. Clean vehicles inside and out as needed.
q. Gas vehicles as needed.
r. Oil changes at service centers as needed.
s. Perform monthly safety check on all vehicles.
t. Monthly cleaning of transportation wheelchairs and layback chair.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
a. Occasionally changes schedule or works overtime.
ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW, AND APPROVAL OF WORK:
a. Receives oral instructions from the Director of Housing.
b. Shows initiative and judgment in doing assigned tasks.
c. Able to perform, organize, and evaluate work.
RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:
Decision making is limited to specific responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Housing.
REPORT PREPARATION:
a. All changes in residents' condition.
b. All hazardous conditions in the facility, including equipment.
c. All accidents or incidents observed.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION:
Operate equipment according to facility policies, and manufacturer's specifications.

RELATIONS WITH OTHERS:
a. Maintains cordial relations with residents and families.
b. Communicates clearly with staff and maintains cooperative spirit.
SPECIFICATIONS - MENTAL/PHYSICAL:
  1. Work/tasks are performed in and out of building.
  2. During spring, summer and fall escort residents outdoors for on/off ground activities occasionally.
  3. Occasionally come in on weekend to assist with transportation on/off campus activities.
  4. There are constant exposures to blood, body tissues and fluids, with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
  5. Adjusts to exposure of loud and unpleasant voices.
  6. Exposure to constant stress of working with sick residents and their families.
  7. Exposure to residents who are confused, irrational, agitated, and combative with abrupt mood swings on a regular basis.
  8. Routinely lifts objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  9. Stands and walks on hard surface 6-7 hours daily.
  10. Bends, stoops and turns often.
  11. Pushes wheelchairs, recliners with residents on them, weighing up to 250 pounds.
  12. Assist weight-bearing residents weighing up to 200 pounds, from bed to BSC wheelchair and to chair on a daily basis.
  13. Exerts considerable force in pulling and pushing daily.
  14. Hearing ability must be sharp to understand residents, and their needs.
  15. Visual ability must be sharp to observe changes in residents' condition.
  16. Ability to think clearly, and react calmly during emergency situations, and assist with possible evacuation of residents.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, TRAINING NECESSARY:
a. Work permit required if under 18 years of age.
b. Regularly attends in-services.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
a. Indoors - works in well-lighted and ventilated areas. Subject to possible falls, odors, and injuries from equipment. Possible exposure to dust, infectious waste, diseases, chemicals, various viruses, including Hepatitis B and AIDS, etc.
b. Outdoors - possible exposure to weather extremes.
LEARNING PERIOD REQUIRED:
a. Ninety (90) day probationary period.
