What is H-1B ?
An H1B Visa is a work permit that enables foreign workers from across the world to reach the United States and work under American companies. Given how competitive the employment niche is, the eligible foreign worker has to work in a specialized field for which the American companies can’t find workers in the United States
During the application process for an H-1B Visa, the eligible candidate is sponsored by the American company they are being employed by. The employer is responsible for paying the visa fees and the paperwork that proves the candidate’s appointment in the company.
In general terms, the visa is valid for three years, which can then be extended for six years and an indefinite time following that, depending on the relationship between the employer and the employee working on the H-1B visa.
In case an H-1B visa holder quits their job during their active tenure of the visa, they are posed with three options to choose from. The candidate can either:
- Find a new job and complete the associated paperwork
- Apply for a change of status involving the visa extension or the Green card application
- Return to their home country or get deported
The candidate has a grace period of 60 days to find a new job after quitting or losing the job that they got the H-1B Visa for
