About AppLovin

AppLovin makes technologies that help businesses of every size connect to their ideal customers. The company provides end-to-end software and AI solutions for businesses to reach, monetize and grow their global audiences. For more information about AppLovin, visit: www.applovin.com.

To deliver on this mission, our global team is composed of team members with life experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives that mirror our developers and customers around the world. At AppLovin, we are intentional about the team and culture we are building, seeking candidates who are outstanding in their own right and also demonstrate their support of others.

Fortune recognized AppLovin as one of the Best Workplaces in the Bay Area 2022, and is a Certified Great Place to Work in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Check out the rest of our awards HERE.

A Day in the Life:

AppLovin seeks an intellectually curious, strategic, and highly motivated attorney to join the growing Privacy, Litigation, and Regulatory (PLR) team within AppLovin Legal, reporting to the Senior Managing Litigation & Regulatory Counsel. The PLR team provides support across AppLovin's suite of products (including AdTech, AI, e-commerce, and gaming) and frequently takes on large, high-impact projects.

This newly created role will work cross-functionally across the organization to support the litigation, regulatory, and product counseling functions:
  • Litigation: handle day-to-day litigation issues and develop strategies to avoid disputes and resolve pre-litigation matters, regulatory inquiries, and actual disputes;
  • Regulatory: analyze regulatory developments (in the US and internationally) that may impact our businesses or products and help translate them into practical and operational guidance and proposed changes for our lines of business; and
  • Product Counseling: apply your litigation and regulatory insights to help business teams avoid blind spots and landmines with existing products and in the consideration and development of new products, particularly those involving emerging or high-visibility technologies like AI and AdTech.

This role requires superior judgment, a strong work ethic, excellent communication and relationship-building skills; comfort working independently and in gray areas or ambiguous contexts; plus, a strong interest in learning about new technologies and areas of the law. This will be a great opportunity to work on cutting edge issues in an exciting and fast-paced environment. If this interests you and you want the opportunity to work with a fun, collaborative team - we would love to talk to you!

We are headquartered in Palo Alto, California, but this role is eligible for alternative worksites and/or work from home.

The Impact You'll Make:

AppLovin Legal cultivates a culture of growth, with varying opportunities to broaden your skills as the organization evolves and continues to iterate with existing products and develop new ones. You will have the ability to provide input and ideas to help us consider complex legal questions, resolve hard problems, and see the tangible results of your work. As a team, we take our work very seriously, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously. We show up each day ready to collaborate and support each other's growth and development-and we have fun doing it. We also pride ourselves on our collaborative and respected relationship with the business, and we constantly strive to continue building that relationship and maintaining our trusted position.

Litigation
  • Manage and resolve day-to-day pre-litigation and litigation matters, including consumer or commercial matters, IP disputes, employment-related issues, and other matters.
  • Help develop and oversee litigation strategy and resolution in more complex litigation matters, including working with outside counsel, assisting with factual investigations, and helping drive briefing.
  • Help pursue affirmative claims on behalf of the Company, including commercial matters, IP disputes, and other matters.
  • Manage and lead responses to subpoenas, statutory requests for information, and requests from government and law enforcement agencies.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to plan, conduct, and manage internal investigations.
  • Identify and assist with the development of strategies for litigation prevention, including proposing updates to commercial and employment-related agreements, online terms and other public-facing documentation, and user interfaces.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to provide legal guidance on risk-related strategy and compliance matters.
  • Manage the litigation hold process and help facilitate document preservation and document discovery efforts.
  • Assist with litigation-related recordkeeping and public reporting.
  • Monitor litigation trends and developments relevant to the tech industry and provide proactive guidance to mitigate potential risks.

Regulatory & Product Counseling
  • Help review regulatory requests and inquiries and assist with preparing responses and participating in related workstreams.
  • Stay updated on regulatory developments and evolving industry standards (in the US and internationally) that may impact our businesses or products and help translate them into practicable and operational guidance and proposed changes.
  • Provide holistic legal advice to business teams across various subject areas, including consumer protection, intermediary liability, intellectual property, marketing laws, and other global legal frameworks.
  • Evaluate proposed product initiatives and new features to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies for products across multiple jurisdictions, including proposing updates to online terms and other public-facing documentation and user interfaces.

Who You Are:
  • You should be an intellectually curious self-starter with strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. While we don't expect you to walk in the door with deep expertise in all the areas of the law you'll need to succeed here, we do expect you to be a quick study who's excited to dive into areas with which you may not have deep familiarity.
  • You should be proactive and a team player, with a sense of humor, the flexibility to pivot to new projects and adjust to shifting priorities, and a willingness to pitch in wherever necessary.
  • You should have the ability to explain complicated legal concepts in simple, digestible terms and help business colleagues translate those requirements into practical action items.
  • You should have high emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to interface effectively with personnel at different levels throughout the Company and in different geographic regions.
  • JD from an ABA accredited law school and admission to and active status in at least one state bar (and eligible to register for California's or an applicable state bar's in-house counsel program).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience providing litigation and regulatory support to technology companies at a well-regarded law firm and/or a corporate legal department.
  • Federal judicial clerkship preferred.

Additional Strengths:
  • Experience working with technology companies, particularly those focused on AdTech, AI, or e-commerce.
  • Experience with class actions and arbitrations.
  • Experience with or interest in data privacy.
  • Experience working effectively across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
