Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for an electrical designer with experience in electrical and/or Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) drafting and design and field services to join our growing team in Vancouver, BC.
Under the direction of design professionals, you will develop designs in BIM documents utilizing Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software. In this capacity, you will work under the direction of a group of senior electrical designers and engineers on multi-discipline designs for facilities primarily serving the water and wastewater industries.
Our ideal candidate will have some experience in design coordination of multidiscipline models and be excited about the prospect of learning to develop plans and sections to communicate engineering design. Project work includes the drafting of design projects that involve equipment upgrades for power distribution, lighting, process control instrumentation and control systems, development and adherence to drafting standards imposed by our clients, and development of conceptual design layouts during project definition phases. Completion of record drawings through field inspections and close collaboration with engineer and contractors. These services are in high demand from our clients and we would like to develop a leading edge in the delivery of these services.

Roles and Responsibilities:In this role, your responsibilities will include drafting and design support for electrical and I&C disciplines conceptual through detailed design development, equipment layout, Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), development of contract drawings using 2D and 3D design approaches, BIM design, bid package preparation, field investigations, and support during construction, under the direction of Senior Electrical Designers and Engineers. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for building things, meeting new people, and collaborating with seasoned professionals who perform industrial and municipal electrical, and other water/wastewater work. Primary responsibilities include:
- Interpretation and markup/update of electrical design plans and specifications.
- Design development for facility power, lighting, control system and alarm systems.
- Design development for power distribution, motor control systems and schematic development.
- AutoCAD drafting and Revit modeling as required supporting staff engineers to develop complete electrical and controls design plans and systems.
- Collaborating with a national team of technical experts in the electrical, I&C and process automation group.
Minimum Qualifications:- Completion of 1-year vocational training with an emphasis on AutoCAD, CadWorx, and/or REVIT authoring tools.
- Production experience in 3D/BIM design with experience in 3D modeling.
- Proficient in using AutoCAD and Revit for creating design and construction drawings.
Preferred Qualifications- Minimum 2 years of experience as an electrical designer drafting under the guidance of an electrical engineer for industrial projects preferred.
- Understanding and experience with Process and Instrumentation Control Diagram (P&ID) development in Plant 3D or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Demonstrated use or exposure to SQL database-oriented data management in production drawings is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of drafting standards typically used by large municipal organizations.
- Understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Use of Navisworks desired.
Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Salary: $71,000- $96,000
