Under general supervision, and in accordance with physician’s orders, the registered nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of the nursing care provided for all assigned patient/clients. The RN is responsible for meeting the OSF St. Mary Medical Center’s standards of nursing care, standards of nursing practice, and the Patient Services policies and procedures in conjunction with other members of the health care team.

VI. PERFORMANCE OF ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
1.Completes and documents the admission and ongoing assessment of all assigned patients as outlined in the nursing practice standards. When co-signing an ongoing assessment, document “reviewed and agree with assessment” under physical assessment in the EMR.
2.Formulates, documents, and reviews the admission nursing diagnosis, based on the assessment data, identifying an individual’s actual and potential needs which nurses can identify and treat.
3.Initiates, documents, and maintains a plan of care for an assigned patient that is consistent with the medical plan of care.
4.Initiates, completes, and/or coordinates actions necessary to accomplish the defined behavioral outcomes and goals communicating the patient’s plan of care accurately and concisely to all health care/support team members. Systematically appraises the patient’s response to the plan of care and recognizes any need for revision.
5.Evaluates educational needs and implements appropriate teaching plan with patient/family.
6.Serves as patient advocate in all areas of patient care.
7.The RN leads and directs all other nursing staff; assumes responsibility to facilitate integrated patient care and delegates appropriately.
8.Displays a positive attitude and demonstrates a willingness to improve performance.
9.Completes the hospital’s general and unit specific orientation programs and completes the required education programs annually. Assumes responsibility for insuring professional growth based on evidence-based practice.
10. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines for nursing practice.
11.Demonstrates the ability to work with newborns to geriatrics depending on assigned department.
12. Demonstrates competence in use of EMR computer system.
13. Meets specific criteria:
a.Possesses current comprehensive knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective care to the adult medical, surgical and cardiac patient.
b.Is familiar with all types of IV access and is proficient starting IV’s.
c.Understands stages of growth and development and effectively uses in plan of care.
d.Administers blood and blood products correctly.
e.Actively participates in unit efforts to improve nursing practice.
f.Presents in-services to peers and assists in formulation of policies/procedures/protocols.
g Explains plan of care to the patient/family.
h. Provides written and verbal education related to disease process and/or medication.
i.Knowledgeable and aggressive in pain management.
j. The RN is ultimately responsible for all patient care; including any delegated LPN or Nurse Tech duties as assigned. The RN is accountable for all LPN duties and documentation by co-signing the chart and physician orders.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Licensed Practical Nurse, Nurse Tech, Certified Nurse Aid
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Current IL RN license
BLS - American Heart, ACLS - American Heart
EKG Certified
