Psychiatry Program Director

South Central Ohio

 

Adena Health System is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist to direct the Psychiatry Residency Training Program in Chillicothe, Ohio.  This is a part-time (.50) non-clinical position. Physicians may work two days on site and ½ day remotely.

 

Interested physicians will have the opportunity to work with an experienced team of associate program directors. The ideal candidate is one with an innovative approach to medical education with a minimum of three years of experience in an accredited teaching/residency program.  Leadership and psychotherapy experience is preferred.

 

Position Overview

The Program Director (PD) for the Psychiatry Residency Program is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, and administration of the residency program, ensuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements. The PD will provide oversight to the residents’ education, ensure an optimal learning environment, and develop and implement strategies to improve the residency program. The PD will also promote the professional development of residents and faculty and maintain the program's accreditation status.

 

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Administration

  • Oversee the administration of the Psychiatry Residency Program, ensuring it meets all ACGME Common and specialty-specific program requirements
  • Develop, maintain, and update the program’s curriculum to ensure that it aligns with ACGME Psychiatry Program Requirements and provides residents with progressive responsibility
  • Collaborate with institutional leadership, including the Director of Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official (DIO), to ensure the program supports institutional goals

 

Resident Recruitment, Selection, and Evaluation

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process of residents in compliance with ACGME requirements and institutional policies
  • Establish and implement an evaluation process that provides regular, formative feedback to residents, ensuring their competency in all areas of practice
  • Provide feedback to residents based on direct observation, assessment tools, and resident self-evaluations to help them meet ACGME milestones

 

 

 

Resident Education and Curriculum Development

  • Ensure the educational program provides residents with a balance of didactic and clinical training experiences necessary to achieve competency in psychiatric practice
  • Design a competency-based curriculum that incorporates the six core competencies: patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice
  • Monitor residents’ progress through milestone evaluations and adjust the curriculum accordingly to address educational gaps

 

Faculty Development and Evaluation

  • Support the professional development of faculty members by facilitating teaching and leadership opportunities that enhance educational excellence
  • Evaluate faculty annually based on their contributions to the educational program, clinical performance, and commitment to scholarly activity
  • Ensure faculty are trained in methods of instruction and evaluation to effectively teach and assess residents

 

Program Accreditation and Compliance

  • Maintain the residency program’s accreditation by ensuring continuous compliance with ACGME Psychiatry Program Requirements
  • Submit timely and accurate program data to the ACGME and participate in annual accreditation reviews, site visits, and the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) process
  • Address any citations or areas for improvement identified by the ACGME through Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) reviews

 

Program Evaluation and Improvement

  • Lead the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) in the development and implementation of action plans to continually improve the residency program
  • Monitor program outcomes, including resident performance on in-service exams, board pass rates, and post-graduation career success, to identify areas for improvement
  • Oversee the Annual Program Evaluation (APE) process, using data from residents, faculty, and clinical sites to make evidence-based improvements to the program

 

Scholarly Activity and Research

  • Facilitate opportunities for both residents and faculty to engage in scholarly activity, including research, quality improvement initiatives, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with ACGME requirements for scholarly activity, documenting all relevant research and educational efforts

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a faculty member in an ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency Program
  • Demonstrated expertise in educational leadership, clinical teaching, and scholarly activities
  • Psychotherapy experience is preferred

 

Work Conditions

The Program Director must dedicate sufficient time to the administration of the program and to provide education and mentorship to the residents.

 

This position has a dual reporting relationship to the Director of Graduate Medical Education and the Designated Institutional Official.
