They offer support to the physical plant department, which includes custodial, grounds, and maintenance services. Additionally, they provide assistance to the physical plant & facility services staff in carrying out their work related to projects, events, and programs.
Job Responsibilities: - Maintains facilities as assigned.
- Must wear proper safety equipment and operate various types of powered equipment required to perform custodial duties.
- Maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Performs workplace clean-up and maintains a safe and clean work area.
- Performs cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing services throughout all college facilities for all college related activities.
- Perform event setups, transport college property,
- Safe operation of various equipment, machinery, hand and power tools, including drills, painting equipment, buffers, vacuums, floor maintenance equipment, etc.
Specific Duties: - Keep assigned areas of campus buildings in a clean and orderly condition.
- Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors.
- Clean classrooms, student labs, common areas, offices, hallways, meeting rooms, etc.
- Remove and dispose of trash throughout campus as assigned.
- Climb ladders, replace light bulbs, install and refill paper dispensers, trash liners and other facility needs as required.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities: Will participate in college responsibilities such as Committee work, Sanitation of workspace, etc.
Travel Requirements: Occasionally it will require travel to other Campuses as needed. Travel during evening and weekend hours may be necessary as required by the facility.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, machinery, or controls. The position requires mobility, effective communications and assisting other college staff.
Duties will involve moving materials weighing 5 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 75% of the work period while operating tools, equipment, or machinery such as computer keyboard, mouse, vacuums, carpet shampooers, floor buffers, and drills, painting equipment, fork-lifts, and other equipment.
Minimum Qualifications: Ability to work unsupervised on a variety of job tasks from simple to complex. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations and to recognize, secure and report unsafe conditions immediately.
Must have knowledge of safe working techniques and safety equipment and must be aware of the typical hazards of the workplace, as well as the special hazards that may be encountered (biohazards, chemicals, asbestos/lead containing materials, etc.).
Must be able to work effectively in a team and adhere to both written and verbal instructions. They should be able to read and write to comprehend and successfully complete safety training procedures. A strong work ethic and attention to detail in their work is required, as well as the willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
