Responsibilities
n
n - Completes care for adult and geriatric patients as assigned by the registered nurse.
n - Assists the registered nurse with the admission assessment by obtaining temperature, respiration, height, weight, pulse and blood pressure. Orients patient to room and unit.
n - Attends to patient's daily hygiene, including oral care, hair care, baths, peri care, application of glasses, dentures and hearing aids.
n - Assists patients with meals when indicated.
n - Assists with passing meals, nourishments, water and assists patients as need indicates.
n - Records intake and output accurately.
n - Acknowledges and meets patients' needs regarding movement and elimination.
n - Assists patients with activities in a safe manner as directed by the nurse.
n - Functions in day-to-day and emergency situations in accordance with nursing standards and as assigned by the nurse.

n - Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
n - Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
n - Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, and other related activities as directed.
n - Completes environmental tasks as assigned.
n - Performs clerical duties as assigned.
n - Maintains orderly storage of supplies and assists in accounting for chargeable items.
n - Documents temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weights and diet consumption in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
n - Documents ADL’s in computer.
n - Performs Glucose Point of Care.
n - Demonstrates positive customer relation skills. (Adheres to the Character Counts Pillars Standards of Behavior)
n - Must complete and pass BCLS.
n - Adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
n - Telemetry Unit:
n - Performs EKG’s
n - Applies telemetry equipment to patients using proper lead placement and discontinues equipment use.

Qualifications
n
Education: Seventy-five (75) Hour Nursing Assistant Course preferred
n
Licensure: Certificate from an approved Nursing Assistant Course is required (unless waiver granted).
n
Skills/Abilities:
n
n - Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships and adapt to change.
n - Ability to organize work.
n - Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment.
n - Basic Life Support completion required.
n - Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients.
n - Member of Support Stroke team requiring 2 hours of annual stroke education
