Younker 8 is a 23 bed Medical Surgical unit that provides an enriching learning experience while caring for patients with a variety of diagnoses specializing in pulmonary conditions. Younker 8 offers opportunities to advance critical thinking skills and nursing autonomy within our multidisciplinary team. Our nursing team has a voice to advocate for change in the nursing profession. Through collaboration with our resident physicians, professional governance council, and nurse residency projects, we utilize evidence based practice to make a difference in our patient care. As a Student Nurse Technician (SNT) in this care model, you will provide care for a specified group of patients. With the support of an RN and other team members of the care group, you will perform tasks or skills within your scope of practice, including but not limited to:
n
n - Provide safe and reliable patient centered care.
n - Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
n - Complete vital signs, intake and output, glucose monitoring, and activities of daily living.
n - Set-up and maintain equipment on the unit and in patient rooms, as appropriate.
n - Promote mobility by assisting the patient with transfers, repositioning, and ambulation.
n - Support patient’s nutritional needs, may include feeding a patient.
n - Document in the electronic medical record.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
n
n - Partners with the RN and other healthcare team members to achieve patient care outcomes and goals of care, as identified in the plan of care.
n - Performs specific tasks as directed by the RN and other healthcare team members as identified in the PCT role. Consults and seeks out guidance from RN and/or other healthcare team members, as appropriate and when completing new or unfamiliar tasks or duties.
n - Tasks include but are not limited to:
n - Activities of Daily Living
n - Answering patient call lights
n - Assisting with simple procedures defined in the work area
n - Taking and recording vital signs and weights
n - Transporting patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens
n - Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment
n - Obtains, records and/or accurately enters data into the EMR. Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
n - Verbally presents factual, concise, and timely information and/or patient care data to the RN, the healthcare team, patients and/or family members in a professional manner.

Qualifications
n
Education:
n
Enrolled in a formal BSN or ADN nursing program to include completion of introductory clinical nursing course with clinical component.
n
Team members within UPH-DM may remain in Student Nurse tech role for up to 6-months after passing the board and achieving RN license.
n
Experience: Completion of 1 RN clinical rotation
n
License(s)/Certification(s): Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Must possess and maintain current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification or obtain certification within three months from date of hire.
n
Level 3 Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
