Job Description

Reporting to the Principal Architect (Director of Solution Architecture), Solutions Architect's primary role is to design and lead the technical delivery of integrated technology solutions at Canadian Tire. This integrated solution typically consists of various in-house services and may be coupled with external solutions. You may also be asked to research emerging technologies for various business lines. You will continue with the project beyond architecture and design in an advisory capacity to ensure deliverables meet design specifications and will be involved in the integrated implementation plan as well.

In this role, you’ll:

  1. Provide technical solution leadership for capabilities under the HR and Corporate portfolios
  2. Produce target state architecture and roadmaps for the accountable portfolio
  3. Act as a trusted advisor by providing advice on data movement and integration best practices, solution security, infrastructure, networking, and resiliency
  4. Lead architecture for projects of various types including SAAS selection and implementation, Migration of legacy solutions from on-prem to the cloud, or build of custom solutions in Azure
  5. Work closely with teams across the enterprise to implement and integrate scalable and reliable technologies
  6. Manage architectural risk mitigation and remediation
  7. Deliver solution designs that align with our overall enterprise architecture strategy and standards
  8. Communicate solution design to get alignment across business and technology stakeholders
  9. Provide more detail for delivery on enterprise architecture designs so offshore development or external vendors can complete the solution.
  10. Publish and present design findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  11. Establish and maintain solution architecture standards, providing direction to project teams and vendors to ensure compliance.
  12. Work closely with delivery, platform security and risk/compliance areas to review and evaluate designs.
  13. Monitor and assess emerging technologies and future direction of major application platforms to recommend improvements for delivery
  14. Govern the delivery elements for the overall solution to ensure fit to design
  15. Create technical process model/flows to visualize solution architecture. These are driven from business requirement flows and are utilized by the development teams
  16. Complete the solution implementation plan for all internal and external service providers delivering solutions for the project

What you bring:

  1. Post secondary education, preferably in Computer Science or related fields
  2. 5 or more years of practical experience as a Solution Architect
  3. Strong technology research skill set with proven ability to architect and present technology alternatives based on scope level business concepts
  4. Strong object-oriented analysis and design skills with the understanding of design patterns for n-tier and service-oriented architectures, including web services
  5. Knowledge in principles of software architecture, techniques, and UML notation
  6. Demonstrate a strong ability to learn new information and systems quickly
  7. Ability to work successfully in a highly matrix organization and build partnerships with peers and vendors
  8. Knowledge of Containers and containers orchestration tools
  9. Expertise in solution design and development
  10. Knowledge and experience regarding the practical application of security/risk concepts, standards, and regulations.
  11. Experience designing and delivering web-based solutions integrating to legacy back-end environments.
  12. Experience designing/implementing HCM software like Workday, PeopleSoft, Dayforce etc. is nice to have
