We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director, Data and Analytics to lead Sun Life International’s operational data strategy and analytics initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Transformation Officer, the Director, Data and Analytics will drive data-driven decision making for operational teams, including Operations, Underwriting and Distribution. The role will leverage advanced analytics, gen AI and predictive analytics to unlock valuable insights, drive operational efficiency and identify initiatives to improve business efficiency and the client experience.
What you will be doing:
Act as business champion for a data-driven, decision-making culture; drive the adoption of business insights, gen AI and predictive analytics to solve complex business problems.
Collaborate with functions and senior leadership to identify key performance metrics, KPIs, and benchmarks to track and measure business performance.
Work with key stakeholders in Operations, Underwriting and Distribution to understand and execute on functional data needs.
Collaborate with Data and Analytics team in conducting comprehensive analyses of data, including client transactions, product performance, policyholder behaviour and market trends.
Partner with cross-functional IT teams and senior leadership to identify emerging management tools, skills, techniques and technologies, and ensure timely introduction for competitive advantage.
Ensure the Data and Analytics team delivers a dataset and reporting that meets the business requirements and business needs.
Conduct hands-on analysis and utilize statistical techniques, predictive modelling, machine learning, etc., to understand operational metrics and provide strategic recommendations based on data insights to drive innovation, enhance operational efficiency and the client experience.
Stay attuned on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape affecting the U/HNW sector in relevant countries, to inform data analysis and strategic initiatives.
Adopt data visualization and present findings and recommendations to senior executives and stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner and influence strategic decisions.
Who you will be working with:
This role is multi-faceted, involving collaboration across various regions, including Ireland, Canada, Bermuda, Asia and the US. The successful candidate will work closely with Sun Life International's teams and leaders across main functions, such as Strategic Delivery, Technology, Product Development, Operations, Finance, Actuarial, Risk, and Compliance. This position requires a versatile and adaptable individual who can navigate the diverse needs and perspectives of stakeholders in different countries and functions to drive the organization's data and analytics objectives.
What we are looking for:
10+ years of work experience in data analysis, business intelligence or related roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, in the insurance industry or financial services.
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience with machine learning techniques, gen AI, predictive analytics and advanced analytics applied to insurance data, is a plus.
Able to synthesize large sets of data and determine high level key messages and gaps.
Expertise in SQL, Python, R, and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Experience with big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure), is a plus.
Proven track record of delivering high-impact analytics projects.
Strong business acumen and ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies.
Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to present data solutions and findings effectively, and translate complex data analysis into clear and concise business implications, to senior leadership.
Strategy and management consulting experience desirable.
Salary Range: 105,000 - 180,000
