Title: Religious Education CoordinatorReports To: The Religious Education Coordinator reports to the Pastor. Summary: The Religious Education Coordinator (REC) will design and implement the religious education program in English and Spanish as delegated by the Pastor. He/she will develop and oversee a comprehensive plan of religious education/formation, quinceañera s, and oversee the sacramental preparation for OCIA, OCIC, adult faith formation, Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. The REC will also recruit and monitor catechists, select appropriate materials and promote the total faith formation mission of the parish. Responsibilities: 1. Budget and Purchasing a. Ensure adherence to the religious education budget. b. Set program fees with approval from the pastor. c. Prepare program purchase orders and submit to the pastor for approval before purchasing. 2. Recruiting and Monitoring Catechists a. Assess number of catechists needed for religious education program. b. Advertising and recruiting of catechists. c. Conduct regular meetings for ongoing formation of catechists. d. Ensure that catechist complete and maintain ARCHSA Safe Environment requirements. This includes, Completion of a Criminal Background Check, Code of Conduct, Ministering to Minors Policy, VIRTUS Training that includes Protecting God's Children, Vulnerable Adult Training, and Sexual Harassment Training. e. Coordinate catechist participation in events for the Southwest Urban Deanery.3. Curriculum Design a. Develop a holistic program of catechetical formation in both English and Spanish.b. Assess the different levels and needs of those in the catechetical program. c. Submit curriculum design and program materials to the Pastor for approval. d. Be current and up-to-date on the teachings and doctrines of the church. 4. Conduct Annual Religious Education Program a. Observe catechetical volunteer performances and confer individually with each member to assist with their ongoing formation and growth. b. Measure program results against goals set at beginning of program. c. Create appropriate evaluation instruments and use after approval by Pastor. d. Set program schedule.e. Register participants and collect fees. g. Maintain attendance records of both participants and catechetical volunteers. h. Assess catechetical needs of parish and set priorities, goals and objectives with approval of the Pastor. i. All extracurricular activities such as meetings with parents for sacramental preparation and retreats before announcing must be planned well in advance and consulted on with the Pastor. j. Coordinate quinceañera s and prepare them according to the requirements of the parish.k. Develop and maintain data entry for students and catechists.l. Develop a calendar for the year by July 1. 5. Oversee Sacramental Preparation Program a. Prepare the proper documentation required for inputting information in sacramental books in a timely manner. b. Sacramental preparation includes Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, and Order of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children.6. Other Duties as Related and Assigned by the Pastor. 7. Additional Requirements a. Must complete ARCHSA Safe Environment Training. Attend Southwest Urban Deanery events for catechists and REC's.RequirementsQualifications: •REC must be bilingual with proficiency in both English and Spanish.•Education: Bachelor's Degree required but Master's Degree preferred in an appropriate spiritual or theological field. •Some experience in religious education is required. •The REC needs to be a person who is knowledgeable and faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church as witnessed by the life he/she lives.•This person needs to work cooperatively with the Pastor, the parish staff, the deanery, and volunteers.•The REC must have the flexibility to work an irregular work schedule as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
