Position Overview
As a BIM Specialist at Kiewit, you will play a pivotal role in our project workflows by serving as the expert in Digital Delivery tools. Your responsibilities will encompass complex project tasks that demand a deep understanding of various software solutions and the seamless integration of multiple discipline workflows. This position is ideal for seasoned CAD technicians, engineering specialists, and architectural designers who are committed to advancing their expertise in multi-disciplinary modeling for design and construction projects.
District Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-driven engineers analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. Particularly on large design-build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk.
Location
This position is based out of our Oakville, Toronto office.
Responsibilities
Model Management and Standards:
• Deploy BIM/VDC related software to perform various project duties.
• Monitor ongoing projects for errors and enforce model/drawing cleanup.
• Ensure adherence to established standards by project the Digital Delivery team.
• Provide day-to-day support to the design and construction team.
BIM Execution and Coordination:
• Collaborate with project stakeholders to maintain accurate and coordinated BIM models.
• Assist in the development and enforcement of BIM execution plans.
• Alert design team members to relevant software changes impacting discipline-specific workflows.
• Assist in model navigation and development to facilitate the visualization of issues and solutions with the construction team.
Training and Collaboration:
• Recognize opportunities for construction technologies and implement them on the project, training the future users and ensuring technology dissemination.
• Share expertise by teaching design technology skills to engineers and architects as needed.
• Foster a problem-solving mindset, approaching challenges with a “nothing is impossible” attitude.
• Maintain deliverable quality according to BEP and project standards.
• Work with the project team to review and raise constructability issues.
Advanced Skills and Leadership:
• Experience in multi-disciplinary complex transit/infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrate proficiency beyond the entry-level BIM Specialist role.
• Take ownership of complex tasks and mentor junior team members.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives and innovative solutions.
Qualifications
• Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience in a design program or engineering field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
• 3+ Years Experience of Virtual Design and Construction with strong software skills including Navisworks, ACC, Revit, Civil 3D, Dynamo, etc.
• Keen attention to detail—essential for accurate modeling and coordination.
• Familiarity with a range of design technology and software techniques.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing.
• Ability to review and understand 2D and 3D construction drawings/models and specifications and translate 2D drawings and specifications into a complete 3D Building Information Model.
• Scripting knowledge and experience working with model metadata is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certification in Autodesk Revit.
