Location: CPUP 3020 Market St- 3020 Market St
Hours: Per Departmental Needs - Full Time
Summary:

  • Responsible for taking accurate telephone messages and distributing them promptly to the appropriate pathologist. Handles direct patient and physician's request via telephone, fax and mail. Pull/send slides, fax reports, deliver messages to pathologists in timely fashion, back up other staff, assist with mail breakdown, handle physician requests, and performs other duties assigned by supervisor. Completes morning special stain entry.
Responsibilities:
  • Answers the telephone, handles direct patient and referring physician request. Provide excellent customer service to all callers.
  • Responds to written correspondence from patients and/or referring physician offices.
  • Independently resolves issues when necessary.
  • Respond to all requests promptly and accurately, follow up to ensure completion, communicate problems/issues to all involved parties.
  • Fax/mail requested reports to referring physicians for telephone calls.
  • Deliver slides to in-house physicians.
  • Assist all pathologists with special requests.
  • Pulls slides and reports for telephone calls and at the request of the staff physician, and orders recuts and special stains from the laboratory.
  • Generates and/or reviews reports and slides to be sent to outside physicians, promptly forward corrections management, and collates to mail.
  • Responsible for filing and retrieving reports and/or slides.
  • Maintains records and generates reports
  • Distribute pathology reports via mail, faxes, EMR to submitting physician office and /or organizations. Gives verbal (phone) Pathology Reports to physicians.
  • Researches pending and incomplete cases and communicate with management.
  • Follows directives and performs other duties assigned by supervisor, managers and physicians.
  • Inform coworker and manager of pending on your desk.
  • Serves as back up to special stain clerk.
  • Serves as back up for slide filing and mail breakdown.
  • Enter pathology codes via newpath.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Credentials:
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED And 1+ years advanced clerical/secretarial experience in an office setting required. (Required)
