JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Maintenance Team Leader
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Summary of Position: The Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for the daily task of the maintenance team. This position is partially responsible for the supervision, formulation, administration and coordination of all maintenance projects, policies, processes, methods and procedures designed to improve & maintain operating performance, reduce waste & delays. Also responsible for developing, administering & promoting cost reductions on a company-wide basis. Support new product start-up and launches.
This position will apply both electrical and mechanical related knowledge to test, diagnose, maintain, repair and modify developmental or operational machinery and control equipment and circuitry in facility. Work requires an in-depth knowledge of various trades. Performs a wide variety of electrical and electronic maintenance and mechanical service work on sophisticated electronic equipment, machines and/or controls. Diagnoses and remedies troubles, repairs and replaces equipment. Installs, maintains, and/or repairs equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to): - Inspects and checks equipment for proper operating condition, makes necessary adjustments, logs test readings, and maintains, repairs, or replaces all essential equipment parts
- Familiar with machine networking process
- Capable of working with outside contractors for trouble shooting procedures
- Understanding of PLC programming and operation
- Understanding urgency to trouble shoot machines and bring production back on line
- Performs miscellaneous maintenance duties as required
- Read blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, mechanical/electrical diagrams, and technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly
- Align, fit, and assemble component parts, using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, templates
- Operate metalworking machines to fabricate housings, jigs, fittings, and fixtures
- Repair, rework, and calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies and systems to meet operational specifications and tolerances
- Prepare parts sketches and write work orders
- Review project instructions and specifications to identify, modify and plan requirements fabrication, assembly and testing
- Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products such as industrial machinery or equipment, and measuring instruments
- Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications
- Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
- Research, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations
- Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications
- Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems
- Assist with managing the GMMS system (PM plan, spare parts, work orders etc.)
- Work with management to achieve annual KPI goals
- Assist with maintenance training plan for team members individual growth
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers and field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts
- Maintain system logs and manuals to document testing and operation of equipment
- Strict adherence to lock out tag out procedures
- Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
- Activities involve using time-study or standard data for a variety of machine, assembly and hand operations, production methods, equipment layout, material handling, and manpower, equipment and material utilization in order to improve operating performance
- Root cause determination of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods
- Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing
- Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations
- Troubleshoot new and existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes
- Review product designs for manufacture capability and completeness
- Train production personnel in new or existing methods
- Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes
- Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment
- Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness
- Investigate or resolve operational problems such as material use variances and bottlenecks
- Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs
- Evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards
- Design layout of equipment or work spaces to achieve maximum efficiency
- Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements
- Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product
- Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization
- Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities
- Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization
- Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost
- Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status
- Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control.
- Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities
- Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare project specifications
- Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to clients
- Direct, review, and approve product design and change.
- Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services
- Prepare bids, and contracts, and assist the negotiation of research contracts
- Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
- Confer with management, production, and engineering to discuss project specifications and procedures
- Review and recommend contracts and cost estimates
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the technical work performed in the department, service, laboratory or firm
- Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment.
- Set technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management
- Work with Human Resources to hire, train, evaluate, and resolve employee concerns and grievances, and process terminations
- Provides direction, development and leadership to maintenance associates
- Other duties as assigned
Working Experience Required: - 5+ years of experience in the electrical and/or mechanical maintenance field
- Requires experience in electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Requires strong experience and knowledge with installation and maintenance work on industrial plant systems and equipment
- Previous lead or supervisory experience in maintenance team environment.
Education: - Degree in technical field is a plus, but not required
Skills and Knowledge: - Requires a broad knowledge of controls and mechanisms
- Knowledge in PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Experienced with remote IO design and operation
- Experienced with robot programming and troubleshooting
- Experienced with AC/DC drive motor operation, adjustment, and troubleshooting
- Maintain working knowledge of state-of-the-art tools or software by reading or attending conferences, workshops or other training
- Broad knowledge of OSHA and workplace environmental, health, and safety programs
- The ability to work in a team environment, which includes being self-motivated, accepting responsibilities, completing assigned action items, and participating in a proactive manner in all team events
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects with strong prioritization skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, reasoning, and analytical skills.

The employee generally works in warehouse, manufacturing, and indoor office environments but occasionally works outside, in all types of weather and on uneven terrain.
