Job Summary: The Sheet Metal Superintendent is responsible for coordinating and supervising all on-site activities related to sheet metal fabrication and installation for HVAC and mechanical systems on commercial and industrial projects. This role involves overseeing field teams, managing schedules, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and maintaining quality control. The ideal candidate has a strong background in sheet metal and HVAC installation and is skilled at leading teams and coordinating with other trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Supervision: Lead and manage sheet metal crews on various projects, ensuring that work is performed efficiently, meets quality standards, and adheres to project specifications.
- Scheduling & Coordination: Develop and maintain daily and weekly schedules for sheet metal crews, coordinating closely with project managers, general contractors, and other trades to prevent delays.
- Quality Control: Oversee all aspects of sheet metal installation, from material handling to final assembly, ensuring work meets company standards and client expectations. Conduct regular inspections to ensure high-quality craftsmanship.
- Safety Compliance: Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on-site, ensuring that all team members follow OSHA regulations and company safety protocols. Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure all required safety documentation is completed.
- Resource Management: Manage resources on-site, including labor, equipment, and materials, to ensure efficient work practices and reduce waste.
- Problem Solving: Identify and address any job site issues or conflicts in real time, providing technical expertise and solutions to keep projects on track.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily logs, progress reports, timesheets, and change orders. Report progress and any challenges to project managers.
- Training & Mentorship: Mentor and train sheet metal crew members, helping them develop skills and maintain high work standards. Ensure that all team members are aware of safety and quality expectations.
- Client Relations: Interface with clients and general contractors as needed, addressing concerns and ensuring that their needs are met. Represent the company professionally at all times.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in sheet metal installation within commercial and/or industrial construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, installation techniques, and HVAC ductwork. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
- Leadership Abilities: Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience managing diverse crews and promoting a positive team environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills for coordinating with crew members, project managers, and clients.
- Safety Knowledge: Solid understanding of OSHA regulations and other safety protocols relevant to sheet metal installation.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore) and scheduling tools is a plus.
- Certifications: OSHA 30 certification is required; additional industry-related certifications, such as SMACNA or LEED AP, are a plus.
