Position located in Caskey, South Carolina
Responsibilities of the Principal Formulation Scientist:
- Create product formulations for a range of products, including those aimed at veterinary and consumer markets.
- Assist in identifying and procuring necessary components for product formulations.
- Collaborate with the product development team to align formulations with project goals and assist in sourcing relevant ingredients.
- Generate prototypes and trial batches in line with set procedures.
- Partner with operational teams to scale formulations from initial production to larger manufacturing runs.
- Work with production teams to refine and improve existing formulations as required.
- Develop and initiate research to support product development and evaluation efforts.
- Apply relevant analytical techniques to ensure product quality and efficacy.
- Assess new ingredients for their suitability in formulations.
- Gain knowledge of formulation and production processes for semi-moist products.
- Contribute ideas during the early stages of product development.
- Evaluate formulations for practical manufacturing applications.
- Maintain thorough records of all development activities, including formulations and production trials.
- Stay updated on trends in ingredients and related fields, sharing insights with the team as appropriate.
- Work with operational teams to assess the equipment needs for pilot production.
- Mentor and guide team members by providing technical insights and constructive feedback.
- Take on other duties as necessary to achieve company goals.
- Work collaboratively and communicate clearly with colleagues across departments.
Requirements of the Principal Formulation Scientist:
- BS/BA in chemistry, pharmacology, nutritional science, engineering, or similar discipline with 10+ years hands-on formulation experience. MS, PhD, or PharmD preferred.
- 3+ years experience with animal/pet formulation.
