Position : Director of Materials, Facilities, and Maintenance

Position Overview :
The Director of Materials, Facilities, and Maintenance at Virginia Transformer will lead the strategy and execution of materials management, facilities operations, and maintenance across multiple plants. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient coordination of procurement, inventory control, supply chain operations, facility upkeep, and equipment reliability. The Director will oversee materials planning, purchasing, logistics, warehouse operations, as well as facility management and plant maintenance, aligning all functions to meet production demands while optimizing cost efficiency and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Strategy :
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for materials management, facilities operations, and maintenance to support production goals, cost efficiency, and long-term operational reliability.
- Provide leadership and guidance to teams across materials management, facilities, and maintenance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Align initiatives in materials, facilities, and maintenance with broader corporate objectives, supporting company growth and operational efficiency.
Supply Chain & Vendor Management :
- Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure the availability of raw materials and components at competitive prices.
- Oversee supplier performance evaluation, negotiate contracts, and drive cost-reduction initiatives.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers for facility and equipment maintenance, ensuring minimal disruptions and efficient operations.
Facilities & Maintenance Management :
- Oversee the upkeep and operational reliability of plant facilities and equipment, ensuring that all plants meet safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
- Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Ensure facility-related issues such as HVAC, utilities, infrastructure, and safety systems are proactively managed and optimized for plant operations.
Inventory Control & Optimization :
- Manage inventory levels to optimize cash flow while ensuring production needs are met without disruption.
- Implement effective inventory management techniques such as Just-In-Time (JIT) and demand-driven material requirements planning (MRP) systems.
- Develop KPIs to monitor and improve inventory turnover, reduce waste, and prevent material shortages.
Procurement :
- Lead the procurement team in sourcing materials, services, and maintenance supplies, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
- Drive supplier diversification strategies to mitigate risk and enhance supply chain and facility resilience.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements for procurement and facility operations.
Cross-functional Collaboration :
- Work closely with production, engineering, quality, and logistics teams to ensure material and facility readiness aligns with production schedules and customer demand.
- Partner with finance to forecast material costs, facility management budgets, and ensure cost efficiency in all operations.
- Collaborate with IT teams to enhance materials management systems and implement facility and maintenance management software.
Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement :
- Identify opportunities to improve materials, facilities, and maintenance management processes, reducing lead times and increasing operational efficiency.
- Implement Lean and Six Sigma principles to drive process efficiency and reduce waste in materials management, facilities, and maintenance operations.
- Develop metrics to measure and improve the effectiveness of materials planning, procurement, and facility management processes.
Team Development & Training :
- Recruit, develop, and retain top talent across materials, facilities, and maintenance teams.
- Provide ongoing training and development to ensure teams stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative working environment, encouraging innovation and proactive problem-solving.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in materials management, procurement, facilities, or maintenance management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of successfully managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, procurement best practices, and facility maintenance management.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in ERP/MRP systems, facility management software, and MS Office applications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in transformer manufacturing or heavy industrial manufacturing is a plus.
