Position Overview:

The Fabrication Sourcing and Control Director at Virginia Transformer will be responsible for overseeing the supply chain and logistics of transformer tanks and other fabricated components. This role involves managing vendor relationships, in-house production, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality fabricated items to meet plant requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement, fabrication shop management, and logistics, with a focus on cost efficiency and quality assurance.


Location: Roanoke, Corporate Office; must be able to relocate, competitive relocation package offered. This is an onsite role without remote or hybrid options.


Key Responsibilities:


Vendor Development and Management:

  • Identify, evaluate, and develop new vendors for the fabrication of transformer tanks and components.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with existing vendors to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors to secure the best terms and conditions.


Fabrication Requirements Planning:

  • Collaborate with plant management to forecast and plan all fabrication requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet plant demands while optimizing inventory levels.
  • Utilize production data to anticipate future needs and mitigate supply risks.


In-House Production Management:

  • Work closely with in-house fabrication facilities to assess capacity and capabilities.
  • Make informed decisions on when to utilize in-house resources versus outsourcing to external vendors.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to align production schedules with plant requirements.


Logistics Management:

  • Oversee the logistics of tank and component delivery from vendors to various plant locations.
  • Develop efficient transportation plans to minimize costs and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Manage relationships with logistics providers to ensure reliable and cost-effective transport solutions.


Cost Management:

  • Analyze and project the total cost of procurement for fabricated items.
  • Implement cost-saving measures without compromising on quality or delivery timelines.
  • Monitor and report on budget performance and cost variances.


Engineering Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with the engineering team for drawing reviews and technical specifications.
  • Facilitate effective communication between vendors and engineering to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Manage the approval process for drawings and specifications with vendors.


Internal Process Management:

  • Oversee internal processes related to order release, purchase orders, and coordination with plants.
  • Ensure that all procurement activities comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Streamline and optimize procurement workflows to enhance efficiency.


Quality Assurance:

  • Manage source inspections to ensure the quality of outsourced fabricated items meets company standards.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures for all procured items.
  • Address and resolve any quality issues in collaboration with vendors and quality assurance teams.


Team Leadership and Staffing:

  • Hire, train, and manage a team of 4-5 managers responsible for planning, contracts, execution, source quality, and logistics.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support professional development within the team.


Travel Requirements:

  • Travel up to 50% domestically and internationally to visit vendors, plants, and logistics partners.
  • Represent Virginia Transformer at industry conferences and supplier meetings.


Organizational Control:

  • Oversee the planning and execution of fabrication sourcing strategies across the organization.
  • Ensure alignment between procurement, production, and logistics functions to meet business objectives.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CPSM, PMP) is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of fabrication processes, including steel fabrication and machining.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement and 5 years in fabrication shop management.
  • Strong understanding of international logistics and supply chain management.
  • Proven track record of managing complex supplier relationships and negotiation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% for business purposes.
