The field-based Medical Affairs team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) at Baylor Genetics play a key role in clinical and scientific education to internal and external parties. The MSL serves as a scientific and clinical expert and liaison between Baylor Genetics and key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, medical associations and academic centers through the development, dissemination and clarification of pertinent scientific and clinical information. Each MSL establishes long-term clinical and science-based relationships with healthcare professionals that help to ensure access to current, accurate and relevant scientific information through the process of education via one-on-one interactions, small group discussions, and presentations at local and national conferences. The MSL will aid other members of the Medical Affairs team in development of scientific content, and the MSL is responsible for organizing and delivering continuing education (CME/CEU) presentations.


The MSL may also collaborate with various external agencies, consultants, investigators, and collaborators as well as internal stakeholders, including Sales, Customer Support, Business Development, Product, Marketing, and Research/Development. The MSL also serves as an expert resource on Baylor Genetics products and associated disease states.

MSLs are expected to work closely with the Manager of Medical Affairs and the Science Writer & Content Manager to contribute to multiple abstracts and publications each year. To be successful in this role, this individual will be a strategic thinker with excellent attention to detail, outstanding oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific concepts in a compelling and concise manner to various internal and external stakeholders. This position can be remote.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in scientific field required (MS in Genetic Counseling, PhD, NP, MD).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of clinical experience in pediatric medicine with an emphasis on genetics required. In addition, 2+ years of industry experience in Medical Affairs strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with key aspects of genomics and molecular diagnostics technologies.
  • Proven history delivering high quality scientific presentations.
  • Proven history of authoring peer-reviewed scientific publications, scientific posters & abstracts.
  • Fluency with all MS Office and SharePoint software required.
  • Experience leading initiatives and/or teams cross functionally.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and priorities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while working collaboratively on multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills in a complex and matrixed environment.
  • Self-driven attitude to take initiative and work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision towards a common goal.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and convey complex scientific information to audiences of varying backgrounds.
  • This position requires 40-50% travel (national and international), including overnight and occasional weekend travel.
  • Attendance at periodic internal and external meetings which may include national and international locations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a motivated and dynamic Medical Affairs team to provide educational support to healthcare professionals and organizations on Baylor Genetics products and services.
  • Work with contacts outside of the company including healthcare providers, investigators and collaborators, influential clinicians, KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), and advisory boards, as appropriate.
  • Serve as an expert resource on pediatric genetics & genomics and on Baylor Genetics products to provide educational support for the field sales team and other internal partners.
  • With the broader Medical Affairs team, participate in abstract development and support publication efforts, as well as attend relevant educational meetings and conferences annually.
  • In collaboration with product marketing and scientific communications, develop multi-channel medical educational activities and tools including illustrative case studies, speaker programs, slide decks, CE events, etc.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with internal sales, marketing, and customer support to support sales colleague development through coaching aligned with technical and business opportunities/strengths. Review sales materials for technical accuracy, medical appropriateness and utility to customers and field team.
  • Deliver effective, high-quality presentations in scientific venues, online webinars, etc.
  • Monitor and analyze medical literature to inform internal stakeholders of key scientific and competitive developments.
  • Attend assigned major medical conferences to provide scientific support to the commercial Baylor Genetics team and contribute to a meeting summary report from each conference to summarize key scientific and competitive observations for internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and contribute to other Medical Affairs projects as needed.
  • May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
