Job Summary/Overview
Shipping & Receiving Supervisor directs & coordinates through departmental leaders, activities relative to the warehouse and/or shipping operations. This position is responsible for continuous and efficient output in desired quality and quantity. Ensures objectives are met relative to safety, quality, and delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily shipping operations to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
- Manage and supervise the shipping team, providing guidance and support.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and communication.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate stock for shipping needs.
- Prepare and manage shipping / receiving documentation, including bills of lading and invoices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant shipping regulations and company policies.
- Implement and maintain shipping / receiving best practices and procedures.
- Resolve any issues or discrepancies related to shipping and deliveries.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
- Maintain a clean and organized shipping area.
- Track and report on shipping SQDCI metrics and performance.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve shipping efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of all shipped goods.
- Coordinate with carriers and pick-up and delivery schedules as needed.
- Provide training and development opportunities for shipping / receiving staff.
- Ensure all shipping equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in shipping regulations.
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints related to shipping.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed in the shipping area.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Proven experience as a Shipping Supervisor or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of shipping / receiving processes and best practices.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- SAP software and Microsoft Office Suite experience is a plus.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of inventory management and control.
- Familiarity with shipping regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to lift and move heavy packages as needed.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to track and report on shipping metrics.
- To maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime, including evenings and weekends if needed.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Be certified to operate the several types of forklifts used at CM Chattanooga.
- Have the ability to train and certify new hires on the operations of required forklifts.
- Willingness to stay updated on industry trends and changes.
Required Qualifications
- Two-year degree with equal emphasis on Supply Chain or Logistics or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years experience in distribution center preferred.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing preferred.
