The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is the largest nonprofit in the world solely focused on accelerating a cure for each and every multiple myeloma patient. We drive the development and delivery of next-generation therapies, leverage patient clinical and molecular data to identify optimal and more personalized treatment approaches, and empower myeloma patients and the broader community with information and resources to extend their lives. Central to our mission is our commitment to advancing health equity so all myeloma patients can benefit from the scientific and clinical advances we pursue. Since inception, the MMRF has opened nearly 100 clinical trials, helped bring 13 FDA-approved therapies to market, and built the CoMMpass multiple myeloma study, representing the single largest genomic dataset for any cancer. Position Overview :

The MMRF Research team pursues many initiatives including interventional trial-related translational research, longitudinal biosample based patient research, as well as various academic and biopharmaceutical research project partnerships. Central to these efforts is the MMRF data repository, representing one of the most extensive multiomic and translational research resources for a single cancer in oncology research.

The Scientist will be responsible for leading the development and application of computational workflows to facilitate analysis of multiomic, clinical, and functional data in the context of biological studies of multiple myeloma. Particular emphasis will be given to studies addressing patient risk, therapy response, and biomarker discovery towards optimal therapy and cure in multiple myeloma.

The Scientist will work in multidisciplinary teams with strong collaboration across all areas of the organization as well as engage in external communications with MMRF stakeholders across academia and industry. This role requires a creative, high-performing, and proactive individual who demonstrates outstanding scientific knowledge and experience in cancer research, management and communication skills, and high personal and ethical standards.

Essential Functions:

• Oversee key aspects of analysis in various MMRF translational omics research initiatives in support of our mission to accelerate a cure for each and every multiple myeloma patient.
• Identify, evaluate, support, and apply computational tools, workflows, and statistical methods for the analysis of multiomic and clinical data to enable a better understanding multiple myeloma biology
• Communicate effectively with team members and leadership to relay progress and challenges, and implement creative solutions
• Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders in academics and industry, and represent MMRF at conferences
• Contribute significantly to the development and dissemination of lay and scientific communications, including abstracts, papers, and presentations
• Work closely with the bioinformatics team to communicate and coordinate data analysis needs for establishing new bioinformatic pipelines or modifying existing pipelines to ensure timely analysis
• Other duties assigned by manager or designee

Qualifications and Skills:

• PhD degree in Bioinformatics / Computer Science / Life Science or related field with minimum of 2 years post-doctoral experience
• Working knowledge and demonstrated experience with multiomics computational data analysis, blood cancer and/or immunological research, with experience multiple myeloma strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience with integrative clinicogenomic analysis (e.g. multi-omics - including single-cell RNAseq and tumor genomic data analysis in conjunction with functional and clinical data) and translational systems biology (applied in the area of blood cancer and/or immunology) to facilitate biomarker discovery and tumor biological insights
• Highly skilled in programming – Python and R preferred – with a focus on documentation, version control/ working knowledge of Github
• Experience with cloud-based computing (AWS preferred) and linux operating systems.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and master purpose-driven bioinformatics tools/software (e.g. sequence alignment, variant calling, and expression analysis) and platforms (e.g. DNAnexus, Seven Bridges) in addition to experience with data mining and machine learning methodologies
• Excellent analytical and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated by strong publication record and conference abstract presentations
• Ability to multi-task and pivot effort when required in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Experience with academic-pharma translational research collaborative projects
• Lateral thinker with creative problem solving skills
