The Prototype Set-up Mechanic works with different machinery for example; Single-Sheet Lyle, Pressure Formers and GN In Line CIP formers. They work with these types of machineries to create the prototype. The person works closely with Product Designers to make changes to the specification if needed to make the proto type. Knowledge and experience working with thermoforming machines is highly desired as this person prepares the mold for the part to be manufactured. The Prototype Set-up Mechanic is responsible for the entire prototyping process, from mold preparation to shipping finished product.
Responsible for all thermoforming molds, inserts and other various components utilized to manufacture thermoform products from various thermoforming machines. Including Single-Sheet Lyle Pressure Formers and GN Inline CIP Former. Responsible for the entire prototyping process, from mold preparation to shipping finished product.
Responsibilities include:
- Mold preparation: Vent drill and polish per standards. Prepare mold to produce samples.
- Trim Knife Fabrication (GN CIP Former): Fabricate correct Steel-Rule Knife per mold design.
- Setup / installation of tooling: Assemble tooling onto appropriate universal components per application and machine. Prepare to form initial samples.
- Establish first run parts: Form initial samples ensuring they’re properly formed. Provide to Product Designer or Manager for approval.
- Inspect / test final product - reject product that does not meet specifications: Once samples are approved to form, continually perform periodic inspections or tests per design specs.
- Troubleshoot forming issues and adjust accordingly : If needed, adjust machine to maintain a properly formed and functional sample.
- Accurately read and operate machine’s computer console: The ability to perform changes to the machine controls accordingly.
- Use measurement instruments to check work: Use Calipers, Micrometer, Indicators, Go/No-Go Gauges, or Lab Fixtures for Quality Control.
- Trim finished products (Lyle Formers): Finish trim samples with correct trim-die or Laser Trim per supplied drawing.
- Packing of product for shipment: Determine needed box and paperwork for shipment. Generate needed Export Documents if Exporting out of the Country. Schedule trucking and provide tracking to Project Manager.
- Finishing process of 3D Printed Components: Mock-up Parts, Molds, Components and Lab Fixtures.
- Including:
- Finish part removal from build platform
- Support removal
- Residual resin removal (Alcohol Cleaning)
- Final polish
- Vent Drill if a printed mold
- Setup and start new build platform.
Required Qualifications:
- Willing and able to work 6am-2:30p m Monday through Friday.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior set-up experience in a manufacturing production environment is highly desired
- Dependable and punctual; flexible to scheduling needs
- Ability to work with varying personalities; well organized; ability to communicate at all levels
- Maintain good housekeeping
- Must be able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate safety leadership
