Work environment The International Joint Commission (IJC) is a highly respected and trusted independent binational advisor to the governments of Canada and the United States on matters related to the management and protection of hundreds of shared lakes and rivers, and the prevention and resolution of disputes over transboundary waters.
The Director is accountable for the management of strategic and operational policy and public outreach and communications advisory services on initiatives supporting the binational management of Canada-U.S. transboundary waters. Key responsibilities include coordinating the development of plans and strategies, as well as leading on publication and dissemination of communications of specialized hydrological and indigenous knowledge related products, organizing and overseeing public hearings and other forums regarding policy, scientific and engineering studies and advice.
Intent of the process The intent of this process is to staff one (1) position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this process which may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, CBC language requirements, and various conditions of employment, which may vary according to the position to be staffed.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the work to be performed, such as economics, sociology, or communications.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Significant experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on large and complex projects or services related to policy and research.
2. Significant experience in providing leadership in the management of communication functions such as public affairs, media relations, and outreach.
3. Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal or external stakeholders (e.g., central agencies, other government departments, non-governmental organizations, industry, indigenous communities, or provinces and territories).
4. Significant experience in the management of human and financial resources.
* Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities acquired for a minimum of 3 years.
