Salary: Based on salary schedule for 235 days.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
Qualifications: - Should be physically capable of performing duties required by the position.
- Should possess sufficient ability to carry out duties in an intelligent manner.
- Should have a high school education or GED.
- Should be orderly and willing to learn new techniques of maintenance and housekeeping.
- Should be dependable, able to get along with people - teachers, principals, and patrons.
- Must be able to plan and organize his/her work in the proper housekeeping of the assigned physical plant or building.
- Must complete a criminal background check through the Alabama State Department of Education at your own expense.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board my find appropriate and acceptable.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are set for building egress and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day, and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.
- Sweep or vacuum classrooms daily and dust furniture or as directed by the immediate supervisor.
- Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Scrubs, hoses down, disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
- Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and filters as needed.
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Cleans all chalkboards, whiteboards, and instructional writing surfaces at least once a day or as specified or as directed by the immediate supervisor.
- Makes such minor building/furniture repairs as necessary.
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the head custodian or principal.
- Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing. (Subject to school assignment.)
- Report immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
- Remains on the school premises during work hours.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building each school day as designated by the principal, and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment on hand and requisitions needed replacements.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Completes all daily reports, and checklists, addressing the upkeep of the facility.
- Compliance with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Prompt and regular attendance.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
