GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Food and Nutrition and the Patient Services Manager, is responsible for the coordination and delivery of meals/snacks to patients. Is responsible for arriving on time for shift and in proper uniform.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collects menus from patient rooms; delivers menu selections for following day. Checks menu choices agains NPO list from nursing. Checks to make sure special items ordered are allowed on patient's diet. Corrects menus for dinner, breakfast, and snacks as needed. Tallies special orders for the cooks and cold items for the salad maker. Delivers any snacks ordered while retrieving menus, placing items in refrigerator if patient is not in room. Clearly marks items with patient's name.
2. Sets up trays according to requested/approved patient menu choices. Delivers trays to patient rooms, checking to be sure that all items ordered are on the tray. Retrieves any missing items. Always says 'hello' with a smile. Checks with nursing staff for any late trays that need to be ordered. Makes additional coffee rounds.
3. Picks up dirty trays at end of meal. Returns trays to dish room. Picks up dirty late trays. Helps dry or wraps silverware; dries and mats trays.
4. Maternity - sets up dessert cart (cakes, fruit, napkins, spoons, sugar, creamer, forks, plates, coffee, hot water, and mugs).
Makes rounds to non-diabetic patients following dinner. Cleans cart and refrigerates food.
5. Helps in dish room as needed. Must work as part of a team. Job tasks may be changed or requested by a supervisor as needed to meet the demands of the department.
OTHER JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to follow routine written and verbal instructions. Attention to detail.
Up to two months of on-the-job training or experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
1. Patient care and kitchen environment.
2. Regular walking and standing for long periods of time. Pushing heavy food carts. Frequent lifting of trays and other equipment.
