What you'll be doing
As a Sr. Consultant, IMS System Programmer, you are responsible for providing technical direction and subject matter expertise to ensure stable, reliable environments for complex sharing initiatives in compliance with established controls, standards, policies, and procedures. You will collaborate with and advise senior management, utilizing your solid understanding of business dynamics to analyze and protect environment integrity and mitigate risks, present alternative solutions, and recommend solutions using available resources for complex initiatives with key dependencies.
The role is responsible for managing and maintaining storage systems in mainframe environments running on IBM’s z/OS operating system. This role ensures that the mainframe's storage environment is stable, secure, resilient and optimized for performance. Ensure data recoverability in case of hardware failure or disaster. Conduct regular tests of disaster recovery plans to ensure quick restoration of services. Analyze storage performance metrics and logs to identify storage bottlenecks and implement performance. Monitor storage usage, ensuring efficient capacity planning. Manage the migration of data between different storage devices, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity. Implement security measures for storage systems, ensuring data protection through encryption and access controls. Ensure compliance with industry regulations related to data storage and management. Respond to and resolve storage-related incidents, and provide root cause analysis for system failures in a timely manner. Monitor GDPS operations, ensuring real-time replication of data and system health across geographically dispersed environments.

How you'll succeed
Technical Expertise – you will leverage your solid technology expertise to review and analyze current client software and requirements to determine the most effective solution to include in business proposals; install, upgrade and customize ISV software tools in a multi-system z/OS mainframe environment, and help to ensure software and hardware remains current to avoid End of Support costs.
Effective Communication – you will work to accomplish organizational goals that are consistent in supporting both IT and Business objectives, communicate effectively and patiently across technology teams to influence teams to adopt solutions to keep critical systems secure and operationally resilient. You will provide and document problem analysis, resolution, and prevention, designing procedures and best practice techniques, using IBM and ISV online tools for opening and managing problem report tracking and resolution. You will actively participate in periodic disaster recovery exercises, maintaining disaster recovery readiness of systems, and monitoring status of systems to proactively prevent issues from occurring.
Relationship Management – You will collaborate with internal business partners in Application Development, Infrastructure, IT Operations, and IT Production Support to accomplish organizational goals that are consistent in supporting both IT and Business objectives. You will work directly with Hardware and Software vendors on solutions, build your network, and deepen existing relationships. You will leverage your verbal, written, and presentation communication skills to build strong partnerships, while influencing participants to mutually beneficial outcomes.
Who you are
You can demonstrate a minimum of 10-years experience in Mainframe technology operating systems or system programming experience. Fluency with mainframe tools including, proficiency in z/OS, JCL, RACF, catalog management and IBM DFSMS (Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem) and DFSMShsm. Deep familiarity with IBM storage solutions, DS8000 and TS7700. Ability to analyze performance data and logs to optimize storage environments. Proficiency in storage performance tuning and managing hierarchical storage. IBM DFSMS for storage management, ISMF (Interactive Storage Management Facility), JCL, RMM (Removable Media Manager). IBM Spectrum Protect for backup and recovery solutions. RACF for security management. Monitoring tools like SMF (System Management Facility) and CA7 for job scheduling and monitoring. Implement and manage GDPS solutions for high availability and disaster recovery across multiple data centers.
You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in IBM Badge/Advanced Certification in Mainframe; Incident, change and problem handling; Participation/contribution to technical projects; and in-depth knowledge and understanding of z/OS and related product software z/OS is preferred.
