Introduction The purpose of the Prince William County Department of Facilities & Fleet Management is to sustain the foundation of local democracy. To fulfill this purpose, the department must hire a diverse, highly trained, highly skilled and engaged workforce. Come join the Property Management Division as a Warehouse Specialist. The Warehouse Specialist duties include managing the storage of modular and stand-alone furniture in the County's warehouse and managing the delivery of such furniture to County facilities. The successful candidate must have thorough knowledge of warehousing, recordkeeping practices, and must be able to effectively manage multiple delivery projects with a variety of customers.
About This Role: The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the inventory and organization of the Prince William County warehouse. Performs responsible technical and clerical work in the operation and maintenance of storage warehouse facilities for large or bulk County property items. Work includes maintaining computerized inventory tracking of PWC office system and modular furniture, coordinating warehouse surplus sales, operating a forklift and other warehouse equipment, and installing and repairing office system and modular furniture.
Work under general supervision. May direct the work of helpers and office system and modular furniture installers.
TYPICAL TASKS:
- Arranges storage layout of furniture, equipment or other goods based on available warehouse space, cube, weight, durability and anticipated removal;
- Maintains computerized inventory of office system and modular furniture parts;
- Maintains database of surplus items; independently determines items to retain, sell or dispose of; coordinates and handles periodic sale of surplus items; coordinates surplus sales activities with Finance department;
- Installs, repairs, reconfigures and services office systems and modular furniture;
- Assists in evaluating and redesigning small office spaces according to users' requirements;
- Maintains clerical records as required and prepares reports;
- Lifts, reaches, pushes, and carries up to 50 lbs or more;
- Plans warehouse activities to include receipts, removals, requests, disposal and storage of warehouse inventory;
- Coordinates with system furniture installers in the retrieval and restocking of systems inventory;
- Checks and approves work of installers; authorizes timecards;
- Performs or oversees receipt and unloading of incoming shipments; which includes
- Inspecting, moving, unpacking, arranging location and stacking of items for storage, and subsequent rearrangements within warehouse, as required;
- Performs or oversees preparation of outgoing shipments in accordance with shipping orders and/or packing lists receiving which includes loading of trucks and allowing for protection of goods and their destination;
- Periodically takes physical inventory and maintains related records reflecting stock on hand, and receiving and shipping transactions; corrects discrepancies in shipments received versus purchase orders, and refuses and returns damaged purchased goods to supplier;
- Request quotes and prepares documentation for Purchase orders.
- Requisitions labor for material moving help, assigns work, and instructs personnel in task performance, and performs similar manual duties required in warehouse operations, including use of associated equipment;
- Periodically requests owner departments to declare stored property surplus, compiles and distribute surplus list, arranges for examination and removal of surplus property claimed by other departments; participates in scheduling, and arranges for setup and tear down of facilities for public auctions to dispose of unclaimed surplus;
- Follows and ensures adherence to safety and housekeeping rules.
Minimum Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school; and 2-3 years of experience in receiving, warehousing and shipping large and/or bulk items, to include 1-2 years of experience operating forklift, pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment.
Preferences: - Ability to manage deliveries and storage of warehouse furniture inventory; Ability to maintain a computerized inventory database;
- Ability to operate material moving equipment, including a forklift and pallet jack, and be able to lift, carry and handle heavy objects.
- The ability to hold and maintain a Prince William County Procurement Card.
Special Requirements: Forklift Safety Certification required within one year of employment.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week to be worked between the hours of 8am-5pm. Work hours may be flexible.
Starting Salary Range :
$21.14 -$32.17 Prince William County Government offers medical plans with corresponding pharmacy and basic vision coverage, as well as dental plans and a separate vision plan.
Full-time and part-time Prince William County Government employees are eligible to participate in our plans; however, the level and cost of benefits depends on the classification of the position.
