This position is located at Alpine Cottage. The position is a Supervisory Health Care Technician II (HCT II) and reports to the Unit Manager. As a lead worker, the HCT II monitors care of people by Health Care Technician I's (HCT I) providing feedback to staff as needed. The HCT II provides direct care services to people with intellectual disabilities /developmental disabilities; some of whom may have behavior problems and /or medical conditions. These services are in the form of behavioral programming, habilitative training and activities, and in assisting with health care needs that are necessary. In addition to direct personal care, the position carries out program goals to encourage independent functioning in all aspects of daily living.
Work Schedule: 2:30 - 11:00 with rotating weekends and holidays, must have flexibility when needed.
This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays, retirement, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience in providing direct care for individuals with Intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD).
Management Preferences:
  • Work experience in the healthcare field
  • Work experience in basic knowledge/skills of providing direct care which may include but is limited to training people in activities of daily living and health related duties of limited complexity
  • To learn behavior support and coaching techniques
  • To work independently and as a member of a team
  • To communicate effectively, report orally and in writing; follow oral and written instructions
  • To maintain professional work relationships and an even tempered demeanor
  • To exhibit effective leadership skills
Physical Requirements:
This position requires successful completion of the Murdoch Developmental Center "Basic Taining Series", which includes, but is not limited to Program Library Training, First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Techniques, CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting. Applicant must have the ability to pass a physical requirements test.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of closely related work experience
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Required Training or Certification - As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
Nurse Aide I/II and EMT certification are not required for this position.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus**
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

NOTE: For temporary, contract or other supplemental staffing appointments: There are no paid leave, retirement or other benefits associated with these appointment types.
