MATERIALS TECHNICIAN – MECHANICAL TEST
n
RESPONSIBILITIES:
n
n- Perform preparation, operation, maintenance, and care for mechanical testing and test frames
n- Perform work and provide results for various mechanical tests including tensile, compression, fatigue, and impact tests at cryogenic, room, and elevated temperatures
n- Use of mechanical testing software, data collection, and data report generation
n- Expedite samples across the SpaceX campus between engineers and testing labs
n- Detailed documentation of testing parameters, equipment setup, and other possible variables
n- Maintain and use precision calibrated tools including micrometers, calipers, etc.
n- Work with engineering to execute testing per various needs
n
n
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
n
n- 2+ years of experience working in a mechanical testing laboratory
n- Associate’s degree in engineering, math, or science, or 3+ years of professional experience in a materials testing/evaluation focused role within the aerospace industry
n
n
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
n
n- Ability to multitask and rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a fast-paced, challenging, work environment
n- Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Atlassian JIRA, and work order systems
n- Knowledge of tensile test setup and test frames
n- Understanding of tensile, fatigue, impact, and fracture testing
n- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
n- Experience using various types of hand tools and/or power tools
n
n
ADDITONAL REQUIREMENTS:
n
n- Able to work off-shifts and available for overtime and weekends if needed with minimal notice
n- Able to wear appropriate PPE for mechanical testing and machine shop environment
n- Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted. Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
