Provides professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to care for patient within an assigned unit

Coordinates care planning with other disciplines

Under the supervision and administration of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse of assigned Unit, the Staff RN is responsible for the nursing care in an assigned nursing unit or a portion of a nursing unit.

Responsibilities
n
The registered nurse-staff nurse working in GI Lab is accountable to the charge nurse in unit or Surgery Manager. Functions as GI procedures nurse and /or recovery nurse.

n - Assess patients; assure quality of care and the needs of patients assigned.
n - Communicate with patients, physicians, families and fellow workers in a professional manner.
n - Demonstrates ability to handle repeated and sudden stress situations.
n - Must be versed in electrocardiography, drug therapy and emergency procedures which my be used in unit.
n - Must understand post-operative recovery procedures and problems.
n - Observe and promote infection control policies.
n - Complete patient charges and nursing notes.
n - Promote patient safety and welfare at all times.
n - Must be able to take call.

Experience:

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Current RN Arkansas license with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
nn
BLS certification
nn
ACLS and PALS certification within one year
nn
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
n
Must be able to communicate with physicians, all levels of hospital personnel, patients, visitors and families.
n
Pass pharmacology test given by NARMC with a score of 80% or above.
n
Post-orientation, demonstrate knowledge as to patient care, medications, ability to recognize emergency situations then take appropriate actions.
n
Knowledge of methods peculiar to GI Lab or complete on the job training.
n
n
Knowledge of hospital, operating room and GI Lab policies and procedures.
nn
GI certification a benefit, with its continuing education requirements for recertification.
nn
Attends special committee, department and in-service meetings when scheduled and/or required
n
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
